The Fledgling Hunter 69
Hmm. Need something?
Ah, right. You want to learn how to hunt.
Sorry, my friend.
I've got no time for another assistant.
Too much on my mind.
But you're the one who met with the king,
aren't you? Yes, I heard about that.
Ugh. I just CAN'T take on a second assistant.
All right then. If you have a nod from the king,
I've got no choice. Here—your gear.
First things first. You think a Hunter just shoots a
bow? No. A Hunter lives off the land.
Which means respecting the land. You shoot only
what you must. You take only what you need.
At least that's my philosophy. Some Hunters choose
to shoot up the whole forest and whoop it up.
It's your choice. I have my way. You'll have yours.
Now, you DO have to prove yourself worthy...
Yes. I require some test of your ability.
Hmm. But where should we start? I'm afraid I don't
have time to teach you the basics of the bow.
Ah, I know. My other assistant.
Pete struggles a bit. But he's good for the basics.
Go find him at the Sheep Pen. Good luck.
Hello again. Yes, Pete told me everything.
That man you helped...
His name is Fletcher. He's quite a Hunter.
He's an inspiration to us all—his reputation
extends to the far corners of Reveria.
Hmm...yes. Anyway, Fletcher used to guard the
royal gardens and go on the king's hunts too.
These days, Fletcher hunts alone, tracking down
the most fearsome beasts of the realm.
What—?! Oh, we're only acquaintances.
That's all. Nothing more.
What I find interesting is that Fletcher has put you
on the trail of a Hootwink.
They're vicious, and you're beginners. Both of you.
I wouldn't have sent you on such a hunt yet.
But if Fletcher thinks you have it in you...?
Hmm. I don't know. I really don't.
I suppose if you succeed, I'll take you more
seriously as Hunters from now on.
Pete, wait—! *sigh* He's always running off without
hearing the half of it.
Granny Cotton! What brings you here?
Isn't that a bit harsh?
Harsher still, Granny Cotton...
Yes, that's occurred to me, but—
Ah. I see. You're giving our friend here a
leg up on Pete.
Hmm.
This one has the king's eye. And now our
friend has your backing too.
I've already said I required a test. I'd been
pondering what it should be...
An owl will do, [Player].
Hmm. Back from the hunt, [Player]?
Wait! It can't be! A Hootwink Feather!
You did it. I'm truly impressed.
Well done, Lucky.
You're my assistant, are you not, [Name 4]?
I haven't forgotten, Granny Cotton.
Well done, [Player].
You tracked down a Hootwink, hunted down
your prey, even got its feather.
You're a good Hunter. You might even be a
great Hunter one day.
I never thought you'd do it. Not so well, or
so quickly, or so humbly.
So, as promised, I'll take you on as my assistant.
Let's see the results of your first hunt.
Nice...and that was just your first hunt.
Someday I look forward to calling you my
equal. But for now...
I want you to keep this advice in mind at the
start of your journey as a Hunter.
Respect nature for what it is—sometimes our
friend, sometimes our adversary.
Welcome to the Hunter Life, [Player].
I expect great things of you.
Go learn bow basics from Pete, OK?
He's in South Castele.
That Pete... People tell me he's lazy. But I'd
never say such a thing.
Always be prepared for what might happen if
you shake a tree. Bees abound.
When searching for Hootwinks, I always travel to
distant forests like the Elderwood.
But there is surely one closer than that.
So you want to forgo the tutorial lessons.
That's quite a bold choice...
You're sure you don't need an explanation?
[Choice: Yes / No]
All right, if that's what you want.
So you do want some help. Hmm...
This isn't the way I normally do things—sending a
new Hunter into the world with minimal training.
It's not advisable. But I'm relieved. I'm something
of a loner, and teaching the basics takes time.
Still, I'd never rush this if I didn't sense that you
seem like you'll take to hunting easily.
So here's everything you need: your bow, some
techniques, and even a bit of Dosh.
It's a lot all at once. Now here's one last thing.
Just some parting advice.
Have faith in your bow. Trust your senses.
A Hunter relies heavily on both.
Most of all, listen to nature. So few ever do. Why, if
I hadn't done so when you walked up...?
I wouldn't have known you're a natural-born Hunter!
And then THIS would have never happened...
I'll tell all the Hunters I know about you.
Don't worry. With my nod, they'll give you all the
respect of a fully trained Hunter.
I wish you well. Be sure to speak to me anytime
you want credit for your hunting achievements.
The Hunter's Tale 2
Well, though there's even more to learn, we really
should celebrate your elevation to a Master.
Congratulations! My hat's off to you!
Now that you're a Master, I'll expect you to look
out for those in need!
Reserve2 45
Huh? Who are you, kid?
You got that look in your eye that says you're lookin'
for a mentor.
Hah, sorry kid...
I don't take on anyone. Not unless I really have to...
Unless...*sigh* the king must've sent you, eh? That
would mean that I really don't have any choice.
The things I do for my kingdom...
OK, well, take this.
Do you know what it is to be a Hunter? First and
foremost, it's a Life of freedom.
It's a Life with nature...which is a wonderful thing.
But nature can be harsh, remember.
If you want to be my apprentice, you're gonna need
to learn a few things.
Fist, you'll need to prove yourself using that bow.
That look tell me that you have no idea how to...
*sigh* Boy, I always get the rookies, it seems.
Well, maybe you should go and see Pete.
He's my other apprentice, if you can call him that.
He should be training at the sheep pen about now.
Pete told me all about what happened, kid.
Seems you met Fletcher.
He's famous among Hunters throughout Reveria.
He used to be guard of the royal gardens, but now
he wanders Reveria hunting down fearsome beasts.
He's just an acquaintance of mine, really. I don't
really, you know, "know" him know him, uh, yeah...
Anyhow, enough about Fletcher.
A Hootwink may prove a dangerous foe for you two
novices. You should know that.
So IF you manage to take it down—which is a big if...
you might earn some recognition as a decent Hunter.
*sigh* Hasty as ever. Same old Pete.
Granny Cotton! I didn't see you there.
You've never been one to mince words, Granny.
I suppose that's true. Hopefully it won't be a mistake
that hurts too much!
Uh oh. I always get nervous when you have a
"wonderful" idea, Granny.
Maybe you're on to something there...
Ah, [Player]. Welcome back, kid. How did it go?
Is that a Hootwink feather?!
Hey, good job! And you too, Lucky!
Granny Cotton sure can be a handful. I'd hate to be
on her bad side.
Anyhow, [Player]...
getting that Hootwink feather means you've taken
your first step towards becoming a true Hunter!
As a master Hunter, and seeing as I promised...
I guess I have no choice now but to officially take
you on as my apprentice.
Hmm, not bad for your first effort, kid.
I guess you can call yourself a Fledgling Hunter now!
A Hunter must always live at one with nature, and
sometimes that can be a battle. Don't forget that.
From now on, find your target, take aim, and always
focus on being the absolute best you can do. Got it?

similar type of place...
Fern's House 1
...
Can I help you?
Oh, you just wanted to say hello?
...Hi.
Chat 53
Sorry, friend. I'm not one to chat. Not unless we got
business with one another.
But I've got a feeling that someday, the time will
come for me to talk to you about Life as a Hunter.
Do you want to know more about Life as a Hunter?
Feel free to look around my house.
You'll see my equipment. Best bow and arrows in
all of Reveria.
Keep up the good work. If you don't, I might just
dismiss you as my student.
Hmm. Sorry. Maybe that was a bit stern. Still, I do
expect you to keep improving yourself.
Sorry, friend. I'm busy at the moment.
Hunters rely most on Dexterity, given we must fire
off arrows quickly and accurately.
But we also draw from our Strength and Focus
to help our arrows fly fierce and true.
Most of all, however, we trust our instincts.
Knowing when to fight and fly is crucial.
I rely most on my Dexterity as a Hunter. As will you.
But don't neglect your Strength and Focus.
Have you heard about the Bounty Clerks yet? They'll
give you rewards for defeating certain creatures.
Which ones? You'll know if you've got a Bounty
after you take down some rare beasts.
It'll appear in a crate—and then you'll need to haul
it to one of those clerks for your reward.
Why don't you hunt the Killer Bunny of the West
Grassy Plains and then claim its Bounty?
As long as you haven't already come face to face
with the Killer Bunny, that is!
Its name is silly, but it's quite wily. I think you'll want
to use the Scattershot technique during your hunt.
The Killer Bunny is hard to track down, given
that it comes out rarely—and only at night.
There are many other rare beasts out there that
will bring a handsome Bounty.
And when you claim the money, you might get
valuable materials from the Bounty Clerk too.
Well done, Hunter. You made Adept Hunter.
Now, though I hesitate to teach new techniques...
I think you've proven responsible enough to
know how to unleash Arrow Rain.
I'd worry about teaching it to Pete, but even you
could hurt yourself if you're not careful.
I look forward to these chats, but ultimately you'll
learn more from nature than from me.
So go on more hunts, and see for yourself what
Life as a Hunter has to show you.
Nicely done, Hunter. You made Expert. That's a
bigger achievement than you may realize.
I live a solitary Life, so I'm not a very good teacher.
You've come far doing so much on your own.
Did I ever mention that Fletcher was my teacher?
I must have seemed like such a greenhorn.
But I learned much, at least until he became a guard
at the royal garden—and soon after left Castele.
That reminds me, Expert Hunter... It's time I teach
you something new.
Fletcher really was an excellent Master. I hope
I'm half as good a teacher for you.
You might be able to find Fletcher on the Grassy
Plains now and then—it's his home these days.
Extraordinary—you've achieved MY rank.
You're a Master Hunter now.
There is still much even we can learn, however, so
keep hunting—and help those who need it.
Now you've proven yourself more than worthy of a
Hunter attack only we Masters know.
We share much in common, being so devoted to
the Hunter's path. You'll be a Hero before long.
You know that I tend to keep my emotions on a
tight rein, Hunter. It's just my way.
But I'm just too proud to keep this to myself:
I am SO happy to see you become a Hero!
What sort of hunt is worthy of you now? Well,
let me suggest the Shadow Bigbeak.
Ooh! I hope you haven't met up with that beastie
yet. You haven't, have you?
Legend has it that that giant bird can be found only
on a small island somewhere—sealed away.
I'd strongly suggest you prepare for such an
incredible hunt, my friend.
The Shadow Bigbeak is sealed in a dark void—one
they say you can reach from Cacto Cove.
I have to admit I have nothing more I can offer to
help you prepare for this hunt. Good luck.
You've done me proud. I couldn't have wished for
a better student. You inspire me.
When I was a student, I told my Master I wanted
to be as great as he was—and even better.
He said nothing to that, which I thought was odd.
Then one day he simply vanished on me.
I was bothered by that until recently, but now
because of you, I understand why he left.
If I wanted to be a Hunter of Hero rank or even
Legend rank, I had to find another way.
I'd reached the point where I needed to help
many people, not please a teacher.
My Master knew that. Now I do too, thanks to all
the help you give people.
I'd love to tell my old Master about you. But
knowing him, he likely knows of you already...
I'm very proud of you. Now continue to help those
around you, and keep listening to nature.
I've heard you've taken up a new challenge. I'm
proud of you—and a bit envious too.
Pete's doing his best to follow your example.
I hoped that would happen.
Who knows? You may far surpass your Master! Now,
here's something in recognition of your success.
The path ahead of you may be difficult, but I
have faith that you'll persevere.
After all, you're the best student I've ever had.
If you can't do it, who can?
Extraordinary! You made Creator rank. I've never
even dreamed of achieving such a thing.
You've inspired me once more. Now I'll aim even
higher in Life, thanks to you.
I'd love to visit Origin Island. It would be the
culmination of all my efforts as a Hunter.
You might consider taking Pete with you when
you go there—he'd be very happy to see it.
Let's take a look at your hunts.
It seems you have nothing new to report. But do
tell me when you finish more challenges.
Well done, earning that Apprentice rank. I look
forward to many more hunting achievements.
The Life of a Hunter can be dangerous, so be
careful out there as you keep growing.
Excellent work earning that Adept rank. You know,
if there's one thing I've learned in this Life...
it's that there's always room for improvement.
But I have faith you'll be even better soon!
Remarkable, my student. You're already an
Expert Hunter. You impress me.
Your skills have truly developed. I can only
imagine how much further you'll grow!
You've developed into a Master Hunter! I hope
you realize how far you've come in this Life.
When I first met you, I had a feeling you'd quickly
learn how to listen to nature.
Life as a Hunter is not just being good with a bow.
It's learning to be IN nature—not just take from it.
Though greater achievements are ahead of you, we
should do something to acknowledge this moment.
For while you can aim even higher, you've hit an
important mark today. Now let's celebrate.
You're a Hero Hunter now, which means people
far and wide will speak of your deeds.
But what does it really mean to be a Hero?
We must all discover that for ourselves.
Never forget—we Hunters have a partnership
with nature. We must respect it fully.
Now I would suggest you report your Hero rank
to the king. There is a reward, I hear.
You've made me quite proud, Hunter.
So you're a Legendary Hunter now... Few ever
achieve such a thing.
It means you've mastered the bow, of course,
but more importantly, you live this Life well.
Be sure to report this to King Erik. I've heard he
likes to meet such well-accomplished Hunters.
Now, if you continue to live in harmony with nature,
surely you'll be legendary!
You're still a Fledgling, but if you pursue more
hunts, you'll surely grow soon.
You remain an Apprentice for now. But given
more hunts, you'll rank up soon enough.
Your hunting has improved, but you're still an Adept
for now. Keep up the good work.
You're still an Expert Hunter for now, but if you keep
at your hunts, you'll rank up before long.
You remain a Master Hunter for now. If you keep up
your hunts, you'll surpass even that.
Have you told King Erik you've reached Hero rank?
It's been a while since anyone did that.
So please tell him at once. I suspect he'll have a
reward for you, Hunter.
There's still much for you to experience out
there in the world, Hunter.
Surely you're already dreaming of your next
quest. Before you go anywhere, however...
I'd suggest you go immediately to the king. He
wants to reward you for your accomplishments.
What kind of reward? Well, just his thanks should
be enough—but I suspect it's more than that.
What can I do for you?
[Choice: Report / Chat / Nothing]
It's quite late, but what can I do for you?
[Choice: Report / Chat / Nothing]
Looks like you're not focusing on being a Hunter
right now. Come back when you are, all right?
Oh...it's you, [Player].
What? No, nothing's wrong. Not exactly. But I do
wonder if you can help with this.
I've gotten an order from the king, you see. It's all
very secret—so I really shouldn't say anything.
A fearsome creature, the Typhoon Bird, has
been seen around Tortuga Archipelago.
It's said to be so terrifying that even Port Puerto's
pirates flee the winged fiend.
Legend has it that the Typhoon Bird comes to
Reveria in the wake of a storm.
That creature has been the nemesis of us Hunters
since—well, forever. You haven't seen it yet, right?
The king has asked me to stop it, but I cannot do
this alone. Would you help me?
Take as much time as you need to consider it.
Speak to me again—if you'd like to learn more.
What shall we talk about, [Player]?
[Choice: Special Request / Chat / Nothing]
So you've given the matter of the Typhoon Bird
some thought. Would you help me defeat it?
[Choice: Let's do it / Sorry, no]
I knew I could count on you, [Player].
The Typhoon Bird has appeared somewhere on
Tortuga Archipelago.
Bring back a [Name 2] as proof after
you've defeated the fierce creature.
I'll be glad to go on this hunt, if you want me to.
This will be a difficult quest—even for you.
Fair enough. I'll pursue this hunt on my own for
now. Let me know if you change your mind.
Is...is that a [Name 2]?
You've done the impossible, [Player]!
I can't believe you defeated the Typhoon Bird.
Generations of Hunters have tried—and failed!
Ah, excuse me for getting a little excited. Of
course, I never doubted you could do it.
Still, I worried for your safety. I can't thank you
enough for helping with the king's mission.
Now, here's something I'd like to give you as a
memento—a couple curious coins.
Lucky found them. I haven't any idea what they're
for. Maybe you'll find a use for them?
If you ever feel like taking on this request again,
just come and speak to me.
If it's any incentive, I've still got a few of those
strange coins lying around...
The Typhoon Bird has arrived somewhere on
Tortuga Archipelago.
It could be anywhere there. Stay vigilant for a
change in the wind.
Of course, I will help you however I can.
Just speak to me if you need me.
What? You don't feel ready to challenge the
Typhoon Bird?
[Choice: Not now / I'm ready]
The Typhoon Bird is incredibly powerful, but
I'm sure you have the skill to defeat it.
It seems it has now arrived on Tortuga Archipelago.
It could be roaming anywhere there, so stay
vigilant for a change in the wind.
Of course, I will help you however I can.
Just speak to me if you need me.
Fair enough. I'll pursue this hunt on my own for the
time being. Let me know if you change your mind.
