The Fledgling Blacksmith 89
'Ello? Bless my bellows, it's been ages since I've seen any new faces down here in the ol' forge.
Name's Vulcan. Blacksmith and Blacksmith Master.
We be forgin' just about everything here. Weapons, quality armor, and even tools from time t' time.
But ye can't forge so much as a fork without proper materials, eh, ←6
Once ye've got ore, it's just a matter o' temperin' it into a finely crafted item, eh? BAM! Eh? CLANG!
That's about the gist of it. What do ye think? Sounds like a clangin' good time, eh?
Ye want ta make a weapon? Ye want ta make some armor?
HAMMER UP! HAMMER DOWN! CLANG! BANG! BOOM!
HAMMER UP! HAMMER DOWN! Just like the Legendary Ironsmith!
CLANG! BANG! BAM! CLANG! BANG! BAM!
Yeah! Channel that inner fire inta yer work! It's spirit that makes a smith a Master!
Course, all spirit and no ore don't work too well...
Here ye go, ←6
With that hammer, ye can CLANG a piece o' ore into a useful ingot.
But don't ye worry. We'll kick off yer trainin' with a beginner's exercise.
It's natural to be a little nervous. But I ain't expectin' much, so relax.
Fyra will fill ye in on the specifics.
FYRA!! DID YE HEAR WHA' I SAID?!
BOOM! BANG! CLANG! BOOM! BANG! CLANG!
Aye, aye... Just hurry it up over there, lass!
Ho ho! Finished? Let's have a look.
Eh... It's so-so.
Didna ye hear me say it was so-so?! What in Reveria are ye so happy about?!
That was but a wee ingot. The most basic of smithy...basics.
There be three kinds o' smithin'. Weapons, armor, and tools. I'll show ye how to forge those.
Yer here, so I'm guessin' ye think ye have the inner fire needed fer blacksmithin'.
Well, it ain't overly complicated. Even Fyra got it right the first time.
Ha ha ha!
What was that, Fyra?
Aye, of course ye did. Now...shall we start with weapons? Armor?
Weapons? Nope, nope... Armor first. Definitely armor. Or weapons...
What do ye think, lass? Weapons? Armor?
Weapons! No, armor!
...Ohmydosh!
Blazing blazes! I completely forgot...
Magmia asked us for a favor... Said she needed something special made.
I promised to help the lass, but Fyra and I are up to our necks in customer orders.
OOOH! Aye! I know! I know! It be [Player], right?
Can ye lend a hand? All ye have to do is head to Magmia's house and tell her we can't help her.
Well...
If yer feeling up to it, ye could take on her request yerself.
If ye can handle it, we'll call yer Fledglin' trainin' over an' done with.
Well, faith or no, ya just need to get over there. The sooner the better!
Last thing we need is fer ol' Steele ta blow his top. Ha ha ha!
Well, how'd it go? That the recipe ye got there?
Why was this commissioned again? Somethin' about 100...er...somethin'...?
I'll tell ye this—this ain't as simple as turnin' an ingot inta a weapon. It's a wee bit trickier'n that!
To start, ye'll hafta learn basic Weapon Smithin'. An' don't go gettin' all forge faced if ye mess up.
Mistakes be embarrassin', true. But power through it! Fyra! Break it down fer the ←*
Ye did it? Lemme have a look.
Huh. This is better than so-so. It's borderline OK!
How's the sword? Have a look, lass!
Yer darn right. The first Custom Bronze Sword ever made in this workshop.
Well, well... Ol' man Steele 'imself. Come ta complain up a storm, have ye?!
Knock it off, ye nutty ol' man!
I dunno why the 100th day is so important... But I'm happy it all worked out!
OK, c'mere and let's see how ye fared.
From this day forward, yer a full-fledged Blacksmith.
What ye wanna do now is complete Life challenges ta earn Stars!
Ye'll rack up quite a few Stars as ye continue ta grow as a Blacksmith.
Stars are the key to improvin' yer smithin' skills.
If ye keep on earnin' Stars, yer Blacksmith License will rank up...
As ye rank up, ye'll also learn lots o' new recipes... and perhaps a few new techniques from time to time.
Keep earnin' them Stars, and check in with me as ye do!
I'll take a look at the number o' Stars ye've earned.
And, if ye've got enough, we'll level ye right up!
OK, one last thing. Wouldn't be much of a Blacksmith if ye couldn't make yer own tools.
Yer me pupil now, so work hard ta move past so-so, ←*
An' don't go giving up that hammer. Wouldn't want ta make me cry! Gya ha ha!
Ye need ta make an ingot first if ye wanna forge anything. Go talk to Fyra. She knows what ta do. Best of luck!
Best hurry. Keep ol' man Steele waitin', an' he'll blow his top!
Ol' Steele's as ornery as ever, eh?
Gimme a shout once you've got all the ingredients.
If ye want more details about anything, go speak with Fyra.
Ha ha! No need fer an explanation, eh? Just want ta take yer license and go?
Ho ho. Quite the gutsy one, aren't ye? Ye sure ye don't want an explanation? [Choice: Aye! / N-no! Wait!]
Ho ho! Yer gonna be a fun one. Didna yer mother ever tell ye haste makes waste?
Patience is about as important as any tool fer a Blacksmith.
We Blacksmiths take ore and temper it inta fine metals.
It takes PASSION and STRENGTH ta swing that hammer over and over again!
Making a weapon? HAMMER UP! Making armor? HAMMER DOWN!
HAMMER UP! HAMMER DOWN! CLANG! BANG! BOOM!
HAMMER HAMMER HAMMER! BANG! BOOM! BAMMER!
CLANG! BANG! BOO— Huh?! What are ye goin' on about?
All right, let's 'ave a look...
Well done. Yer now a Fledgling Blacksmith.
There're still plenty o' people out there with knowledge ta impart.
It never hurts ta get ta know yer fellow Blacksmiths. 'Member that.
Aye! You'll have to report in ta me. Perseverance is the key ta success!
The Blacksmith's Tale 2
Ho ho! Welcome ta Master rank! Sorry I didn't throw ye a party! Gya ha ha!
Ye holdin' up OK? So-so, ye say? Gya ha ha! That's the spirit! Never stop improving! Get out there 'n' show me what ye've got!
Chat 50
This here's a Blacksmith's forge, so dinna mind the heat too much. Like the sayin' goes... If ye can't stand the heat, get out of the forge! Ha ha ha!
Whew! Ye really work up a sweat smithin'! I oughta market a Blacksmith workout. Hammer up! Hammer down! One, two! One, two! Just like that, eh? Smith the pounds off!
Ah, me pupil, [Player]! I like the sound o' that. I betcha think minin' is pretty hard, eh? Well, bein' a Blacksmith is 20 times harder! We take the materials those Miners sell to the shops and turn 'em into REAL items! Blacksmithing is more honest work, if ye ask me. Er...let's keep that last bit there between us, eh? Some things are better kept off the record, if ye catch me drift. Ha ha ha!
A wee busy at the moment. Come back later!
When yer forgin' away, sometimes ye really push the limits and create an exceptional item. We Blacksmiths call those kinds of items quality items. Pretty straightforward, eh? If ye manage to craft yerself one of these quality items, you can sell 'em to the shops for a hefty price. But if ye want to make quality items, yer goin' to need to really polish up those smithin' skills! That means not missin' yer hammer strikes and makin' sure each step counts! There's a sayin' 'bout blacksmithin': Molten ore? Gimme s'more! It means everyone who tries blacksmithin' wants to keep on blacksmithin'! Ha ha ha!
Blacksmithin' has been the one Life ye could count on to make ye a wee bit o' Dosh for a long time. For one, ye have to have Blacksmith set as yer main Life to craft high-quality weapons and armor! The most important ingredient in makin' high-quality items is that Blacksmith SOUL! Go give it a shot. Just take it slow, one item at a time, and yer sure to be bringin' in the Dosh!
'Grats, Apprentice! What do ye say? Are ye ready to temper those skills even further? It's important to keep 'em razor sharp! The more you practice a craft, the better you'll get. It's only natural! Keep on goin'! If ya keep makin' a particular item, soon you'll be able to make more than one o' that item at a time. Course ye have to make sure ye have an adequate amount of materials to do so! Ha ha ha!
An Iron Hammer will let ye forge tougher and better materials, like steel. BANG! CLANG! GETTIN' STRONGER! It's all about timing, timing, TIMING. Dinna worry if ye botch it up the first time. Ye just have to keep at it until ye get it right. Practice makes perfect!
I see ye made it to Adept rank! A pupil is only as good as his or her teacher! Right, right! That reminds me! Don't ye go thinkin' that hard work o' yers is goin' unrewarded. Here! Ye might be thinkin' it's TOO good to use, but believe me, ye want to make the most o' that. Now get out there and get forgin'! Remember to use those Special Skills!
Ye won't get any new materials just lollygaggin' 'round Castele all the time! Get out there and travel, ←*
Ah, there ye are. Stay a bit. Got an old story to share with ye. Wh-what's with that look of terror?! *ahem* Now, yer familiar with ol' man Steele by now. Who could forget a character like him, eh? Well, long ago he was actually my Master. It's true! Aye, the man has a reputation fer bein' more prickly than a Cacto, but he's a skilled Blacksmith. He...he was quite the Master, let me tell ye. He'd bend over backward fer his pupils. He'd even ferget to go home during intense lessons! With a Master like that, it's hard to imagine ever turnin' out a complete failure, eh? Why even now, he's taken to becomin' the Legenda— Wh-whoa, whoa! Almost slipped up there! The rest is top-secret information! Ah, easy there. You'll find out in due time. I know he may not look like it now, but ol' Steele is one o' the best Masters ye could ever ask fer. Yep, there's no one better at meldin' metal than ol' Steele!
Ol' Steele's granddaughter Magmia is supposed to be a natural at blacksmithin'. Ignatius on the other hand... Well, the boy just doesn't have the heart fer it.
Ha ha ha! Ye made it to Master rank, eh? Looks like yer well on yer way to masterin' the secrets o' smithin'! Ha ha ha! From here on out it's uncharted territory fer ye. Yer on equal footing with yer own Master now! What new skills could the higher ranks hold for ye? Ye dinna have to worry about me. Yer success will speak volumes fer me! Ha ha ha!
Now that yer a Master Blacksmith, yer gonna have access to a veritable FORGE full o' new crafts! These crafts call for only the rarest of materials. Getting them is going to be quite the test. Remember the Rogue's Dagger? You know, the craft that called for those rare Rainbow Feathers? To get one of those, one has to take down the Bigbeak in the West Grassy Plains. See what I mean? Workshop skills aren't the be-all and end-all! Ye would do well to get a Life that can hold its own against a monster or two! Could save yer Life! Gya ha ha!
Oh-HO! I see I'm in the presence of a Hero! Ye must have one amazin' Master, eh?! Ha ha ha! Ha ha! ...Ha. *ahem* Back to business. I want ye to try to forge a Spark Hammer. Show me what ye got!
Ahh, the Spark Hammer... That really takes me back. Ya see, I received a Spark Hammer meself the day I became a Master. Like its name suggests, yer gonna need a Lightning Feather from a Thunderbird if ye wanna craft it. Shockin', eh?! Gya ha ha!
Ho-ho! Look who's a Legend! Yer really risin' through the ranks, eh? By the flames, that was fast! Hard to believe ye went from forgin' basic ingots to Legend. Keep on hammerin' away!
I've forged many a great item in me time, but yer by far me greatest masterpiece! Ha ha ha!
What do ye think? Ain't a Life out there more fun than Blacksmith, eh?! Say again? Yer a Demi-Creator? Hmm. Ain't got a clue about that, I'm afraid. Still, it sounds downright amazin'! Lemme see. What could I possibly do to help ye? AHA! How about this?!
I'll level with you. I'm not quite sure I fully understand where or what yer aimin' fer. Bit over me head. But no matter what yer doin', never forget the things I've taught ye! My reputation depends on it! Ha ha ha!
Say that again?! Ye hit Creator rank?! I've got NO idea what that is! Is it higher than Legend? Even higher than that?! Looks like the student has become the Master! Ha ha ha!
What?! Yer not pullin' me leg? Yer really at Creator rank now?! FLAMIN' FORGES! I'd say I managed to forge quite the high-quality pupil! I sure did! Ha ha ha!
Ho-ho! Burnin' that midnight oil, eh?! Let ol' Vulcan see whatcha been up to!
Ye don't have anything to report, ←*
Well done! From now on ye will be known as an Apprentice! Startin' to get used to swingin' that hammer, eh?
Congratulations! Yer now an Adept Blacksmith! Brace yerself, ←*
Excellent work, [Player]! Suppose I can now consider ye an Expert! Now, ye did well so far craftin' many an impressive item, but don't let that get to yer head. Ye still have a few tricks left to learn.
Well, well! It'd seem someone has finally reached the rank of Master Blacksmith! Congrats! Not long ago you were but an unrefined piece of ore, but now look at ye! A finely tempered sword! Yer journey to becoming a Master is akin to a, uhh... *ahem* That is, yer journey is like a box of ingots... Oh, blast it! This is more me daughter's thing... I forge helms, not words! Bah! Let's just party already!
Congrats! Yer now officially a Hero Blacksmith! Apparently yer weapons and tools are all the rage around town! Quite the accomplishment! ...Which reminds me! King Erik has personally invited you over to the castle. Ye better not have caused any trouble... Nah, I'm just kiddin' ye. He probably has somethin' to give ye. Best get goin'! Yer a Hero now! And Heroes don't show up late to appointments!
The Legend lives! You're makin' quite the name fer yerself! Ye may have even surpassed me! Ah, that sound of success is like a sweet hammer clanging in my ears. I did have a li'l story fer ye, but I think ye best be on yer way to the castle now. King Erik has somethin' he'd like to share with ye now that yer a Legend. Be proud of yerself, ←*
Yer still but a wee Fledgling. I wouldn't worry. Like an untempered ingot, it takes time, skill, and patience to grow into a fine sword!
Still an Apprentice, eh? Now yer startin' to heat up. Just like a melted ingot, yer ready to be crafted into a fine Blacksmith. Dinna worry—these things take time.
Hold yer Horses, ←*
Looks like ye finished yer assignment. Enjoy yer wee break now, 'cause from where I'm standin' there's still lots more to do! Ye may have been molded into a fine hammer, but yer still not finished! Now it's time to temper ye... I'll temper ye into a hard-hittin' Blacksmith machine!
I'd expect as much from my pupil. But remember, it takes more than a couple of swings of a hammer to become a true Blacksmith! Ye still have much to learn, ←*
All of the weapons and armor ye have crafted are just the beginnin'. The items ye make are crucial to people's lives. Think about it. That armor ye make protects many a person, ←*
Have ye still not gone to see King Erik? I recommend goin' as soon as possible. Yer going to get twice as busy from here on out. Thanks to yer rise in the ranks, I can guarantee yer orders are gonna shoot through the roof! That means more business fer those Miners...and more business for the merchants. Eh? Ye still here? Ye waitin' fer me to formally dismiss ye? Aye, there's nothin' left fer me to teach ye! Get out there and do us Blacksmiths proud!
Nothin' like a good sweat to pass the time! Whatcha need, ←*
Ho-ho! Night forgin', eh? Need somethin'? [Choice: Report / Chat / Forget it]
What's the matter? The burned smell o' hot, melted metal makin' ye sick? Now, now, ←*
[Player]! Ye couldn't have come at a better time! See, the forge just fell victim to a burglary! That blasted thief made off with a prized possession. I'm talkin' 'bout the Gold Shard! It ain't just any ol' Gold Shard, ←*
With that shard, we can make one powerful Sword of Heroes. Think yer up to the task of craftin' it? [Choice: Yes / No]
Ha ha ha! I knew you'd be up to the task! People 'round town said they saw the culprit running off toward Haniwa Cave. Ye should also be able to find a Bismuth Ingot there while yer at it. Just look out for the big ol' stone face. That's where ye'll find the ingot. Hold on now! I'm comin' with ye this time! I want to make sure we get this done!
Ah, I see... Well, lemme know if ye change yer mind. The order of the materials is key here. Not to mention the heat of the metals has to be just right!
Th-that's...the Sword of Heroes! Ye did it! Temper me ingots, ye actually did it! Ho-ho! Yer amazin' beyond words, ←*
Get out there and show me what ye got! Hmm... What would be the best way to thank ye? I was thinkin' maybe I could do yer laundry. Ye know, really get that Blacksmith's apron glowin' again!
Ye need only ask me whenever you've got an adventure or two planned! Me hammer is all ready for some smashin'! Ha ha ha!
People 'round town said they saw the culprit running off toward Haniwa Cave. Ye should also be able to find a Bismuth Ingot there while yer at it. Just look out for the big ol' stone face. That's where ye'll find the ingot.
Don't think yer up to crafting the fabled Sword of Heroes? Yer sayin' ye give up?! [Choice: Yes / No]
Ye can keep the craft. No charge. What's that look for? It's a generous offer.
