The Fledgling Cook Welcome to Alfredo's Bistro!

Flippity-flip. Flippity-flip. Flippity—
What? I'm busy. Out of my kitchen.
Flippity-flip. Flippity—
I said, out of my kitchen.
Flippity—
WHAT?! Come on, then. What's SO important that Alfredo has to put down his pan?!
Who do you think you ARE, waltzing into my kitchen looking like that?!
What, are you signing up for kitchen duty?
Er, you are?
Hmmpf. So you think you can stand the heat? Here's a pan for starters.
Don't expect me to hold your hand. I've got bigger fish to fry.
Sizzle! Show this kid how to make the you know what.
Sizzle, you fluffball... I mean that dish that blew up in our last assistant's face.
Get to it, then. And you, new kid there, report back to me IF you succeed.
Hmmpf. This one might just work out...
What—? I wasn't talking to you. I mean my dish here. The one that YOU interrupted.
I'll be the judge of that. Give it to me.
Well, what a surprise. It looks delicious.
And it smells wonderful!
But it's the taste that counts most. I'll take a sip...
Hmm.
I declare it...breadworthy!
Sizzle, can't you see he's a Cook? He's got a toque on his head. Let's see what he can do.
Incredible! A special sauce? For a hamburger?
Simple? I couldn't do that! What do you call such a pampered burger?
There is no need. I bow to your patty, sir.
His technique was excellent. But does it deserve my highest compliment...?
Yes. Breadworthy.
No! It can't be...!
Aha! Royal Hamburger. Now I understand! Only a maestro of meat could make such a thing!
Well then, what brings you into my bistro?
What, bees? Outside my bistro?
What?! The royals talk about Alfredo's?
He's just pulling our leg, Sizzle. Next he'll say our new friend over there is the king himself.
Seriously?!
Wh-whose ears?
Who is HIS? I mean, HE?
Are you going to tell me? Or make me guess? I'm going all wobbly in the knees!
Who is it?!
Well then, WHO?
Om-om-OM—!
HOLD ON THERE!
Did I pass out again? You could have at least gotten me a pillow, Sizzle!
Well? What happened? Must have been good. Or else I wouldn't have passed out!
Oh, that's right!
The k-k-king! Has h-h-heard of me!
I c-couldn't believe it! I f-felt like I was getting dizzy. And then—!
Whooomph! I collapsed like a soufflé.
But we'd better hop to it. We should cook him my famous omelet!
But how?
We don't have Vine-Ripened Tomatoes.
I'd have to order them from my special supplier. And we'd need fresh eggs and milk too!
Please tell me.
From P-P-Port—?
P-P-Puerto—?
It was Pedro? From C-C-C—?
Cocina Rica?!
How did you DO it? We barely explained even the basics to you. And then I passed out!
You've earned my respect, friend. So I open my kitchen and my recipes to you!
I'm not easily impressed. But you are a Cook in my book.
I'll gladly take you on as my assistant. With your help, I can make this bistro a three-star...
no, a FIVE-star restaurant!
Now keep up your cooking, and report back to me with any news of your achievements.
I'll always have time for you, even if I'm cooking. Or passed out. So welcome again, friend!
Flippity-flip. Flippity-flip. Flippity—
What? Don't you have work to do?
So much to do, every hour, every day...
Too busy to talk! Ask Sizzle for instructions!
What? You want to skip the lessons?
But then you're skipping the best part, at least for me—grilling new candidates!
Are you sure about this?! [Choice: Yes / No]
What?! You're THAT confident in yourself?
No, no, no! There are two rules in my bistro. Everything in its time. Everything in its place!
Otherwise everything goes wrong!
I've got enough stress as it is...
I've got too much flippity...
and flippity-flip...
and flippity-flippity-flip.
I can't worry about you!
Not while I'm doing the flippity-flippity-flip!
I'm a professional chef, after all!
I applaud your confidence, but I refuse to let you touch a single piece of my precious cookware.
End of story—now, begone with you.
Quick—YOU! Get it off the heat!
...Hmmpf.
Sizzle! How could you?! This is MY bistro!
All right, fine.
It was my plan all along anyway. You think I'd let a pot boil over? It was a TEST.
Yes—a trial by fire. You passed it with flying colors.
So I proclaim you...my assistant!
You may use my kitchen, just as long as you keep it clean.
I'll send word to a few Cooks I know that you're my new student.
Be sure to seek them out. You could learn a thing or two from them.
Be sure to report back to me when you complete challenges so I can give you credit, OK?

The Cook's Tale

Well, this is a big day! You've become a Master Cook! We should all celebrate! Take a seat and savor this moment. We'll have someone mind the kitchen.
Congratulations! Someday you and I should whip up a feast that will go down in history!

Alfredo

Can't talk now. Lunch keeps me too busy!
Sorry, but no time now! It's the dinner rush.
A Cook's work is never done—what to serve, when to cook it, and where to get the ingredients! Of course, Cooks can shop for them, but we also search for them fresh in the wild too!
So busy right now!
If you keep cooking a recipe, you may find you're able to stretch ingredients further. You'll also learn how to make a dish better—and that will make you more Dosh. So you can look forward to making more from less, and earning more too. Just keep at your cooking.
Being a good Cook boils down to know-how and learning the rhythm of the kitchen. Soon enough, you'll surely be a maestro behind the counter, my student.

Surely you've been working at perfecting various dishes, right? The more you cook something, the better you'll get at making it—and maybe making more of it at once. Keep this in mind, though. When you make dishes in batches, you will earn experience for each one... but you'll earn less for each dish than if you cooked each one individually. Still, cooking in batches can be helpful when you need to make a LOT in a short amount of time.
In time, you can make dishes in batches, though you'll still need enough ingredients for each dish. But if you're lucky, you'll be able to stretch the ingredients while you're cooking!

Sizzle has been helping out in my kitchen since he was young. But where he truly excels...? It's in the market. He has a really good eye for fresh produce. I bet you'll develop useful skills too. You've already got some. Use them for the glory of my bistro!
You know, this place really should be called Alfredo and Sizzle's Bistro... And maybe if you keep growing as a Cook, it'll be Alfredo, Sizzle, and [Player]'s Bistro!

Well now! You're an Expert Cook! Then it's high time we spice up our culinary chats. Did you know that Salt and Black Pepper are crucial for some dishes? Not all, of course. You don't want salty juice or peppery sweets. And you shouldn't waste spices on such disasters. Black Pepper can be hard to come by. It's sold in a far-off desert area—it's so exotic!
Some spices aren't found in Castele, so be sure to stock up when you travel to other cities.

Well, well—look at you. A Master Cook already! Here. Take this. No, it's not a tasty treat. It's an old bistro decoration. And now you'll gain more skills too, so your cooking will be even better!
Look how far you've come as a Cook. I'm so proud that you're able to make so many dishes now.

So have you ever tasted Dragon Meat, [Player]? It can be tough and gamey and very difficult to roast properly. But a Dragon Steak... There's a dish that's worth all the trouble. Just thinking of it makes me salivate!
The recipe for Dragon Steak is simple enough. You need Dragon Meat, obviously. What's hard to find are Truffles. Frankly, I have no idea where to get any!

You've achieved the rank of Legend! You've come so far. Why, I still recall the first time I saw you cook! Just look at you—such a love for the kitchen. It brings a tear to my eye. My student...is a Legendary Cook now!
Your epic journey as a Cook began right here in my humble Castele bistro. You've done so much. I'll take some of the credit, though. I knew you had greatness in you, and I'm a very good teacher. Where will your journey take you next? They say variety is the spice of Life—so wander widely!

*sniff sniff* You know, I have a great sense of smell, so I have detected something about you. You're still humble, despite how far you've come. Ha! We have that in common, you and I.
Can it be possible? You're a Demi-Creator! Has the student surpassed the Master? I can still remember when you learned your very first dishes at Alfredo's Bistro!

*mumble*...atulations.
Oh, fine—I'll say it loud and proud. Congratulations!
Oh, fine—I'll say it loud and proud. Congratulations!
Have some achievements to tell me about? Let's do this quickly—I'm cooking!
Sorry. Seems like you haven't completed any more challenges. Come back when you have.
Well done! You've reached the Apprentice rank! I knew you could do it.
Very nice, student. You're an Adept now. I'd better be on my guard—you might get better than I am!
An Expert already? You're just shooting up through the ranks, aren't you!
Well done! You're a Master Cook! How does it feel to be so accomplished? I'm proud of you. Of course, this calls for a big celebration. You sit down. You're not cooking for your own party!
You've made Hero rank as a Cook! I've heard that everyone is singing the praises of your dishes. But there's one person who matters more than anyone else right now—that's King Erik. You should go speak with him right away. Tell him you've become a Hero Cook! This is as extraordinary as...well, hmm. It's just about the best thing in bistro history!
How incredibly rare. You're a Legend! You've earned it with your incredible cooking. Who knows how much higher you'll go with your talent? Now report this to King Erik. He'll probably have some sort of prize for you. You're a Legend—you deserve a gift to match. Of course, what I have for you is more valuable than all the gold in the world. And that's... my congratulations!
You're still a Fledgling, so it looks like you've got more cooking to do before you rank up.
Keep at your recipes. You'll be even better soon. We Cooks push ourselves all Life long!
Nice progress. It's clear you're working hard. If you keep at your cooking, you'll go far!
You're becoming such a seasoned Cook. Sizzle and I are both proud of you!
You just keep growing! And look at you, a Master, reporting to me. You'll be a Heroic Cook soon!
Have you reported to the king yet? If not, what's the holdup? He can't wait forever. So...go!
All the things you can make as a Legendary Cook... the Fancy Sashimi Set... and the Roast of Legend, not to mention Legendary Corn! By the way, have you reported to the king yet? If not—turn up the heat on your feet! That is, hurry to the king, OK?

I'm busy, [Player], so let's make this quick. How can I help you? [Choice: Report / Chat / Nothing]
I'm cooking, [Player], so let's make this quick. What can I do for you? [Choice: Report / Chat / Nothing]
What? You're not dressed for the kitchen? OK, we can chat once you focus on the Cook's Life again.
Busy, busy, busy! Huh? Oh, it's you, [Player]! You look like you're eager to take on a real culinary challenge. I'm right—right? Well, I don't think I've ever told you this Port Puerto legend about a ghostly dish... Yes, ghostly. As in supernatural? This dish is known as [Name 2]. And the taste is supposed to be out of this world... but it's made from Ghost Meat. What? You're not scared? Shaking? Come on, I think it's terrifying. You haven't already fought one, huh? But I think you might be up for this kind of eerie culinary quest. Think about it... and if you ever want to know more, just ask me about it, OK?
All right, how can I help you, [Player]? [Choice: $$Special Request? / Chat / Nothing]
Ha! You want to try making the [Name 2]? [Choice: Yes / No]
I knew you couldn't resist. Now, to make the [Name 2], you need to find the ingredients. Go to Nautilus Cave on Tortuga Archipelago. And there you'll find the Undead Captain. You can get the Ghost Meat you need...from him. And you can find the Ghost Shells there too. Huh? Will I be helping out with this? Er, no. Can't. Sorry. I've got other things to do. What, you doubt me, [Player]? All right, then. I'll go with you. Anytime you want. Just ask, and I'll, uh, be more than ready to take on those ghosts with you!
WHAT? You're not going to take on that dish? I understand it might sound eerie... but [Name 2] is said to be so scary delicious, it's worth the trouble. Let me know if you change your mind!
I can't believe it! You've made the [Name 2]. A dish made from the essence of pirate ghosts! It takes guts to find the ingredients, let alone actually make it.
Is it a hot dish? Or a cold one? Will it chill a person to the marrow just eating it? In any case, it's a culinary masterpiece! So you deserve a reward for making it. Here you go. I got them from a strange, Doshless customer. Don't go eating 'em now!
Let me know if you want to try the Special Request again! I've got more of those coins, if you need them.
Nautilus Cave on Tortuga Archipelago is haunted by the ghosts of pirates. *eeeep!* Er, though I'm busy, I'll come and help you out. That is, if you really need me to.
What? You aren't giving up on making the [Name 2], are you?! [Choice: Yes / No way]
Ha, of course you aren't! You want to see how that [Name 2] tastes, right? You can speak to me anytime, you know. I don't mind if you go alone, though.
WHAT? Don't say it's true, [Player]! You're not too scared, are you? I'm not. Much, anyway. Well, maybe a lot. But it's still a darn shame. Still, if you want to quit this quest, that's fine by me. We'll never speak of it again.
In all the rush, I even told you the recipe for the Sea Lord Set. I hope you make good use of it.
