The Fledgling Angler Ol' Man Angler

Ah, do I sense a student approaching? One who wishes to learn the ancient art of fishing?
Then you must be prepared, my guppy, to delve into the deep mysteries of the sea.
One must focus one's will upon the water.
One must have patience, no matter what the weather. Even in harsh wind, baking sun, fiercest sleet.
One must wait, and wait, and—
UGH. Lost another one?! Just goes to show...even the wisest of Anglers can be made a fish's fool.
Do I sense you're having doubts, my guppy? Then turn your back on the Angler's Life.
No, wait! I was just being—! All right, I'll admit it. That was just a whole lot of big talk.
Wait—were you calling my bluff?! Well, I guess I laid it on pretty thick with the weather talk.
Please don't go. I'll...I'll even give you a fishing rod of your own. You'll be a pro in no time!
I swear, if you stay, I'll teach you everything I know about Life as an Angler!
Whew, you almost slipped the line. And I'd hate to stifle your interest. Now, where to begin...?
Let's jump right in, then. Can't wait to see if you take to this—well, like a fish to water!
And of course, the best way to learn how to fish is to grab a rod and drop a line in!
Here you go—the rod I promised you!
What to fish for first?
I'll make it a common one.
At least common around here—a Castele Crucian.
I'd like you to work with Isaac to learn the basics.
Sorry. I can't leave the dock now, but Isaac will do a good job. I just showed him the ropes.
I will tell you this, though—and it's a biggie. You can sell your catches in the west part of town!
I'll send word to the fishmonger. She likes to know who her fish are coming from.
Oh, and I forgot to introduce myself. I am known hereabouts as the Fisherman Sage.
And that is Isaac. Now, I'll look forward to seeing how you tackle your first task!
Well, well, well—if it isn't my two students, back from the catch. How did it go?
Did you fail to catch that carp?
Hmm. Indeed.
He wants Applefish, you say? Difficult. No Anglers hereabouts have seen any lately.
Now, now, Isaac. I wasn't finished. You know what I've told you before: Anglers must stay calm.
No Anglers have seen that fish. But there is another group that can help you.
They're fanatical about fish. They pounce on any opportunity to get them, Isaac.
Cats, of course. They know their fish. They surely can help you!
Find the right cat...to find that Applefish.
That Isaac... He's a nice boy, but he always dives right on in without listening to his grandpa.
Well, I'll tell the rest to you. Surely you want to help find that Applefish, right? [Choice: Yes / No]
What an eager Angler you are!
Come now—consider it a test of your skills.
One of the cats in town will know where to fish for an Applefish.
If you DO catch one, I'll take it as proof you're a born Angler.
Ha! What fun! I wonder which of you will find that fish first? Go on—try to beat Isaac to it!
Ah, I see... It all makes sense now. The man at the inn was my old friend Seabury...
That means every Angler in Port Puerto will soon hear about the two of you.
Hmm. Then it's high time I elevate your ranks, my students.
Let's take a look at what you've done.
You've done so much already. Now catch every opportunity to grow into better Anglers.
Remember to come see me now and then so we can review all your latest achievements.
And surely Seabury told you to visit Port Puerto once you're further along in your fishing.
You two are so fortunate! What great fishing trips are ahead for you—all over the world!
And you'll catch fish in the strangest places—lava flows and cloud banks, if you can believe it.
And maybe, if you catch rare fish, I might even put it in Monthly Catch for everyone to read about.
Of course! Why wouldn't I? You know, Seabury put me on the first cover of Monthly Catch.
But only because we had to stick someone on the cover—and he's a salty sea dog! Bwahahaha!
I'm happy to have Isaac teach you the basics. He's new, but I taught him well!
A good spot for Castele Crucians? Why, I think Isaac likes to fish for those in South Castele.
Once you have a fish, you'll want to sell it to the fish merchant in the Shopping District.
Think you'll enjoy the Life of an Angler? It's a nice way to make Dosh, selling catches at the market.
As the name suggests, Applefish look apple-like. Hard to find, but cats can be of help there.
You caught an Applefish? Well done! You should get it to that fellow who wanted it.
What? Kids today. No time for tutorial quests...
You're sure about this? You want to skip out on my introductory pearls of wisdom? [Choice: Yes / No]
I don't know why I let this sort of thing get to me. I know the world moves so fast these days!
Oh, thank all the fish in the sea! I thought for a moment I might keel over from shock.
I guess it's because I really prepared for this.
I've gone through it so many times in my head. This is how we SHOULD have continued...
Let's jump right in, then. Can't wait to see if you take to this—well, like a fish to water!
And of course, the best way to learn how to fish is to grab a rod and drop a line in!
Now, what to fish for first? I'll make it a common one.
...Or at least that's how I rehearsed the first part. Then I'd send you on your fun quest.
You'd catch that first and then go on a tougher quest. We'd have some laughs along the way.
But there's no point crying over spilled milk. Or is it spoiled milk? It doesn't matter.
It's all water under the bridge, as we Anglers like to say. And where there's water, there's fish.
So, in short, let me just say I'm glad to see you want to be an Angler.
But in MY day...
Oh, never mind. This is YOUR day. So here's everything you need to be an Angler.
I threw in some Dosh—no hard feelings, right? Now I guess I should give you the rank-up...
Of course, if you'd fished your way to the rank-up, I suppose right about now you'd be...?
Ah, yes. You'd be fishing for an Applefish. Which are found on the outskirts of Castele, you know.
No, no—I mustn't dwell on all that.
I will look forward to all your future achievements. I believe you'll be an outstanding Angler.
So I gladly name you a Fledgling Angler.
I'll spread the word about you to other Anglers.
Don't worry. I'll make sure they never know you skipped the normal flow of things.
Here's your rank-up, and I'll be glad to bump you higher if you report your achievements to me.
Go forth and fish, my friend.

The Angler's Tale

My, my—what an exceptional Angler you've turned out to be. Let's celebrate!
You fished through thick and thin! Day and night! Hot lava or freezing snow! Your dedication inspires me through and through. You are truly an Angler worthy of attention!

Fisherman Sage

The Angler Life requires one thing above all others, even more than a fishing rod. And that's patience, my friend. We wait for a fish to take the bait...and then we wait some more.
So much of the Angler Life is spent waiting for a fish to bite—it's like sleeping away the day!
Explore Reveria and seek out all its fishing spots, my student. Oh, and Reveria's cats too. Cats seem to think about nothing else but what fish are in the local waters. Be sure to speak with them.
I haven't had a student like you in a long time. You've got a real knack for angling.
You have such promise as an Angler, so test your skills all over Reveria. The joy of being an Angler is chatting with people everywhere—fishing for friends, you could say. Now, I trust you know what Stats are key for an Angler? Yes, Dexterity and Intelligence. But most of all? It's Focus. It takes razor-sharp wits to sense how to pull a fish from the water! Now go. Explore Reveria!
The Stats for an Angler? Focus, first and foremost, followed by Dexterity and Intelligence!

Have you come across huge fish in rivers or ponds? I don't mean just the shapes you see underwater. I mean HUGE fish, those whose fins break the water. You can sometimes see them in the Elderwood. We generally call those sorts of fish Lordfish, and though there are different types... and they have different names, they are all truly the lords of all fishes found in a certain area. They're very difficult to pull in, but you can do it if you steady your rod and pull them in carefully. If you do catch one, haul it to a Bounty Clerk—one of the great rewards of being an Angler! These fish rarely appear, so keep returning to fishing spots all over the world—maybe you'll see one!
The Forest Lordfish appears in the Elderwood, at least, once in a while. It appears VERY rarely. You'll face quite a struggle landing one of those Lordfish. If you do, take it to a Bounty Clerk!
One of the best things about being an Angler is meeting others who love fishing. It almost goes without saying how much we all find it fascinating—and so tranquil.
I think you're ready for a technique that I devised myself after decades of trial and error. I like to call it Midair Rod Fishing—a very ferocious move that helps reel in the strongest fish. Ha! I remember the first time I used it against a Swordfish, one of the titans of the sea!
The Midair Rod Fishing technique is very fierce, requiring a lot of effort. So save it for your biggest catches! Although, I guess, you really could use it to wallop any fish.

Isaac's parents were enthusiastic adventurers. Long ago, they set off to find a legendary Lordfish. Specifically, the Coldwater Tuna. They set off for Mount Snowpeak...and never came back. Maybe you can catch it. It will take all your strength and angling skills to haul it out of the water. You'll have to bide your time when it's on the line, but I know you can wrestle it out of the depths!
I've been guiding Isaac through the Angler Life, but truth be told, he does well all on his own. He even built this house here from all the Dosh he's made from fishing! Can you believe it?
I was supposed to be taking care of Isaac. But...ha! It seems like he's the one taking care of me!
Look at you—my student, a Master already! With all the skills you know, no fish can resist you. Ha, well...that's not quite true, I guess. Fishing is always full of uncertainty. That's the fun of it. But here's something certain—I've got a gift for you. It's a present for becoming a Master!
Now that you know more Special Skills, you'll have greater success at landing even tougher fish. But you know, no matter how much we rank up, the fish sometimes outsmart us anyway. Ha!

This, my student, will be the last challenge you get from me, and it will take you to Terra Nimbus. Oh, yes. What a place to fish! Where the fishing holes are in the clouds themselves. You must travel there, drop your line, and catch a Lordfish I've always dreamed of seeing. Perhaps with your skill, you can. It's known as the High-Flying Fish. I truly hope you can catch it!
I hope you can catch the fish of my dreams. Just imagine—the High-Flying Fish of Terra Nimbus!

By all the fish in Reveria—you're a Legendary Angler now! What a lucky Life I lead... having my student traveling the world and my grandson Isaac here to keep me company. I think of you both also as friends and colleagues in the Angler Life, however. Couldn't be happier!
How does it feel, being a Legendary Angler? But you know, no matter how good we get, the fish always keep us on our toes, don't they? Can we ever perfect the sense of calm needed to deal with such slippery devils? Ha! We can try!

It's good you've come, [Player]. There's something I need to tell you. My great-grandfather told me long ago that Legend is not the top rank for Anglers. But what more is there? Sadly, I can't remember what he said the rank was called. Carp-eator? No, that can't be right. I have such leaky memories these days!
What? You know about it already? So you say it's called the Creator rank. I wasn't far off. But I'll admit that old memory of mine pretty much slipped the hook, didn't it... You know so much about the Angler Life. I'd say you put me to shame, if I wasn't so proud.

So you've ranked up to Carp-eator now! Ha! So what my great-grandfather said was true! There IS a rank even higher than Legendary Angler. Wait. What now? It's Creator rank? Of course it is. What did I say? Oh, never mind. The important thing is that I'm proud of you. Oh! And here's a gift to celebrate!
Frankly, I really don't know diddly-squat about the Creator rank. Fishing is fishing, right? No matter what rank we are, no matter where we fish or what we catch...we're all still Anglers. We have our place together, under the sky, above the water, united in our love for fishing.

You've been busy fishing! Let's take a look at what you've done.
I don't believe you've completed any more fishing challenges. But tell me when you do!
Well now, look at that—Apprentice rank! I bet you're hungry for more challenges... more than our local fish can satisfy. So set your sights on Port Puerto. The fishing there is excellent.
Why, you've grown into an Adept already? It's really no surprise—not with your skill. I bet you supply most of our local fish. Everyone should be glad you're this good!
Incredible! You've ranked up to an Expert. You must be enjoying the Angler Life. It's so relaxing, isn't it? And yet it's perfect for discovering who you truly are. I suppose because we Anglers spend so much time simply standing around waiting for a fish to bite!
You've made me proud, growing into a Master Angler. I always knew this day would come. But—ha! You'll have to fish as long as I have to master the art of gabbing about the Angler Life! Come on—let's celebrate. It isn't every day one of my students becomes a Master!
By all the gills in the sea! You've reached the Hero rank as an Angler? You've seen so many wonders in the waters of Reveria...I can only imagine what's next. Actually, come to think of it, I do know. Speak with King Erik at once. He'll want to learn about this. Oh, I couldn't be any prouder. Or could I? I suspect you'll impress me again soon enough, Hero!
By all the fins in the infinite seas! You've reached the Legend rank as an Angler. Ha! Won't the Anglers of Port Puerto be surprised to learn there's a Legendary Angler from Castele. And just when Reveria almost forgets about this old man, you come along to be my student. Now my time with you is almost done. What you must do now is tell King Erik you're a Legend. You'll have to forgive me if I don't have the strength to go with you. But do go to the king, my Legendary Angler...pride of Castele. No! Pride of ALL Reveria!
You're still a Fledgling for now, my student. But if you keep fishing, you'll rank up soon!
You remain an Apprentice, my student. But I bet you'll fish a new rank out of the water soon!
Still an Adept, my student. But I bet it'll take only a few more fishing expeditions until you rank up!
You're still an Expert Angler for now. But surely you'll fish your way to a new rank soon!
You're still a Master for now, but I'm sure you'll haul up a new rank if you keep fishing so well.
You remain a Hero Angler, my student. I hope you've told the king of your Hero rank. If not, you should!
Still a Legendary Angler, my friend—though that's a whale of a rank. I hope you told the king? If not, tell him right away. He'll want to know of your Legend-ness. It'll be the talk of the town!
You remain a Legendary Angler for now, though I'm still impressed by all you've done. You've hauled in so many achievements since you started. Did you tell the king you're a Legend now? If you haven't, I'd sail right on over there and tell him right away. You'll be the talk of Castele!
Out fishing, [Player]? Well then, what can I help you with? [Choice: Report / Chat / Nothing]
Quiet night, isn't it, [Player]? What can do I for you? [Choice: Report / Chat / Nothing]
I see you're focusing on a different Life right now. Come back to chat when you're an Angler, OK?
It's good you've come, [Player]! I've learned that an elusive, enormous fish has been seen over in Deepsea Cave, near Port Puerto. What fish, you ask? Ha! It's nice I still have something to teach an Angler as advanced as you. It's known as the Poseidon Swordfish, and it's the fear of many a ship captain. We Anglers were once ordered to catch it to make the seas safe for travel—but no one succeeded. Only one Angler ever got close to reeling it in. And that was...me. Yes, I failed to get the job done. But now that it's surfaced again, I think you have an excellent chance of succeeding! Were I a young Angler, I would have rushed out to catch it all by myself. So will you take the bait? If you're interested, feel free to talk to me more about it, my friend.
Shall we talk more of fishing, [Player]? What will it be? [Choice: Special Request / Chat / Nothing]
Ah, you want to try to catch the infamous [Name 2]? [Choice: Yes / Not now]
I knew you'd bite at this opportunity! Well then, let me tell you where to find that Poseidon Swordfish. It's in Deepsea Cave on Tortuga Archipelago. Approach it with caution, my friend. That beast has sunk many a ship. If you do reel it in, bring it to me at once, all right? Oh, and one more thing. I'd be glad to join you for this fishing expedition. Just imagine, you and I facing my old nemesis! But it's your call, of course.
What? I can't believe it! I was sure you'd be keen to go after such a titanic fish...
Just look at that majestic horn! How many ships has it scuttled? Oh, yes... that is the Poseidon Swordfish, all right—the terror of the seas!
Oh, right! This is a special occasion that warrants a commemorative gift! I drifted away one time after casting my line, and when I woke up, I found these caught on the hook. You'll probably make better use of them than me. Here, take them! They're yours.
Come and tell me if you feel like going fishing for the Poseidon Swordfish again. I've got more of those strange golden coins to give you. Ho ho ho!
The Poseidon Swordfish is currently out in Deepsea Cave on Tortuga Archipelago. Catch it and bring it to me...if you can. Ha! That should be quite a fishing expedition!
What is it? Want to quit the special fishing mission? [Choice: Yes / No]
You have caught fish in the seas, rivers, desert sands, hot lava, and even the clouds. You can catch any fish if you keep your calm.
Really? Was it too hard even for you—an Angler of the Creator rank? Well, if you want to try this challenge again, just let me know. You know where to find me.
