The Fledgling Hunter At One with Nature

Wha—?! Who—?!
Why you botherin' me? I was having the BEST daydream ever about—
Well, never mind what. I guess you've come looking for a Hunter.
That's me. No better Hunter around. Er, except for Fern. She, uh...wanted to be my Master.
Sure did. She doesn't even TAKE assistants. But once she heard of me—
Huh? You want to be a Hunter too? Pffft. You might as well give up that dream.
Fern's not taking on any other assistants now that she's found me. Stubborn one, Fern.
She's tough. She's good. I might even learn a thing or two from her.
The king thinks she's the bow to beat anyway. Made her guard of the royal gardens. I can see why. She's pretty as a—
Well, never mind that either. Anyhow, Fern's got an assistant. And that's me.
Uh, yes, Granny! I mean, no, Granny! I mean, I was talking, but it wasn't nonsense. Just setting this
Granny's old as rocks. But she can hear, uh, pretty good.
Now see ya around. I've got things to do.
And don't go bothering Fern. No point. She'd never take another assistant.
Huh. Maybe I should, though. Could make a gob of Dosh...teaching all about Huntery.
I'll probably be the last assistant Fern ever takes. She knew I'd be the greatest Hunter ever.
She had to pull a few strings to get me to agree to it too. Oh yeah, she knows people.
Now, speaking of pulling strings...
I see you wrangled yourself a bow somewhere. Know how to use that thing?
Hey, tell you what? I'm bored. I've got a bow. You've got a bow. I'll teach you a thing or two!
I was a born natural. But you'd better get some practice in. First, equip your bow.
All right. Bow in hand. Good. Now comes the shooty part.
Look yonder. There's your target.
Get a li'l closer. You gotta have the Practice Target in your sights—then shoot!
You'll miss by a mile. But that's fine. Everyone screws up royally when starting out.
Huh. Look at that. Not bad.
Thought you'd fire clean over the target. Being so new to shootery, anyway.
Uh, yes, Granny! I mean, I shoot a thousand times better than that, Granny!
What fell—? Oh, that's right.
This man came in a tick before you did.
Looked thirsty. So I gave him a jug. Then glug, glug, glug—and he passed right out.
He's got the mark of a Hunter. Huh. I wonder if he'll ever wake up to tell us who he is...
Weird. He wants honey?
I thought he was thirsty.
Why's he want honey?
We'd better get on that, [Player], before Granny gets a bee in her bonnet.
Bet you're wondering what honey has to do with Hunters, right?
Hunters hunt more than beasts. We also look high and low for other kinds of food.
There's a word for it. Ugh. What's it again—? Oh, right. Foraging.
Hunters forage for honey, eggs, mushrooms... All sorts of food. Out in the wild.
Another thing we Hunters do? We sneak. Yeah, I sneak around all day. Best part of the job!
And no, I do NOT sneak around so I can steal stuff. It's so I can tippy-toe up to my prey.
I sneak closer, and closer, and closer...
Then, OUT with the bow! YEEEAAAAH!
Except for the yelling part. Scares 'em off. Now back to that whole honey thing...
There's a tree on the road to the Grassy Plains that usually has honeycomb. Let's go shake it!
See? Honeycomb—just like I said.
Stand back. I'll show you how to shake down this tree for honey!
Sh-sh-shoot 'em! Quick!
Whew! Who knew THAT would happen? But that's nature for you.
Now, uh, you see all my fancy footwork there? Zing—took 'em both down in one shot!
Whaddya mean, that's not how it happened? Well, maybe you got off a few shots too!
Best not to tell this to Master Fern. Let's get this honey back to the Sheep Pen!
Hey, you! On the ground! We got you honey!
Wouldn't mind a taste of that myself...
No problem. How'd you end up like that?
Your prey turned on you?! Chawed you up? And you barely crawled outta there?!
How dumb is that? And here I thought some unbeatable monster was on the prowl.
Not me. No way. No how. Eating's the best part about being a Hunter.
And this peewee is new to the Hunter's Life. Barely even knows what a bow is!
No way! A Hootwink? It'll tear us to shreds!
Bah—who doesn't know that? OK, just tell me where I can find that thing.
I wouldn't blame you if you chickened out here. Don't worry. I'll get that owl.
But we'd better tell Fern first. She might just say this owl hunt is too risky.
So, uh, last one to Fern's is a rotten egg!
Hey, [Player]! You'll never guess who that guy was we helped with that honey!
I can't believe it. A big-deal Hunter!
You and Fletcher know each other pretty well, huh? How'd you guys meet?
Whoooee! Hear that, [Player]? Master Fern says she'll teach us all the secrets of shootery!
We just gotta bag that Hootwink!
That ornery critter better watch out for me! Pfffwip! Blangie! THUNK. Yeah, he's a goner!
I swear Fletcher said the owl was in these woods...
but there's nothing here...
Hey, finally caught up, [Player]? Well, you're barking up the wrong tree.
No Hootwinks. Not a one.
But feel free to sniff around here until the cows come home. Gives me another head start!
I'm off to the Grassy Plains to hunt!
That owl's as good as mine!
What?!
You got that Hootwink, [Player]?!
I can't believe it. I lost to YOU?
No way—beginner's luck! I want a rematch.
But, Granny—!
I know. I'm the best around, but—
What? No! It's just that the weather's been so nice, Granny.
Uh...
Uh-oh.
What?! G-G-Granny! I didn't mean to—!
Y-y-you'd better run! Granny's in a mood!
WHAT?!
I told you to shoot the target over yonder. What—forgot how? OK, here's how.
I know it's hard to believe. But first time I ever tried, my shooty skills weren't tip top.
Here y'are—how's this?
...Huh? [Player]!
What happened to the honey? If ya lost it, you'd better go an' fetch some more!
I'm sure the beehive was somewhere just beyond the bridge to the south...
Let's get goin'!
Hmm... I hope Master Fern doesn't come by here. She might think I'm slacking off.
You've got a bow, but you gotta equip that thing before you can do any shootery!
That guy over there stumbled in wanting something to drink. Weird.
Now, where did that guy say the Hootwink was again...?
Huh. Weird. Guess that owl isn't hiding here.
That Hootwink isn't hiding here either. I wonder if this is just some wild-goose chase...

The Fledgling Blacksmith Drop the Hammer!

Howdy there, Magmia! You here for our picnic? Ha ha! Of course you are!
Oh, right! Riiiight...
Huh? Hold it. Ya already have some.
Eh, one more ain't gonna hurt. All yours!
Aw, shucks. No big deal. But, uh...about that picnic...
Hoo-wee! I'm happier than a pig in slop! ...Wait. You ain't talkin' 'bout the date, are ya?
Hey! I see you laughin' over there, Baa Brain! It ain't funny!
One word, Woolly Britches: shears!
Yeah? YEAH?! What's up, Magmia?!
Aww, Horse plop!
They sell Animal Hide in town too.

Huntin' Pete

I'm a great Hunter for sure. When I get my bow pointed at my prey—thwipp, kerblam! Sure, once in a while something runs off, but only because I let 'em get away.
Granny said it's too early to show you how to use a bow, but I dunno... I think you look like you've got a handle on it pretty good already. Don't look cool as me, though.
So Master Fern took you on? That's nuts. She's got me. Huh. Guess I'm just too good to teach. Well, I s'pose I should help you out a bit. Here. Take this. Whipped it up from some honey. Master Fern says I'm good at making this, and you know what? I am. It's good as it gets.
I'm busy, buddy. How about you come back later, huh?
I'm great at hunting, but I'm even better at foraging for stuff—like honey. You should find some. If you want to be a big-time Hunter like me, you've got to get good at more than just shootery!
I'm not a sore loser, you know. You and me...? We're good.
I'm not a sore loser, you know. You and me...? We're good.
Apprentice rank, huh? Then I bet you're going to be leaving Castele on some good hunts. Hey, take me with you! Now, later, whenever. C'mon. Be a friend. Anyway, offer stands. Anytime you want—just ask, OK?
Anytime you want, just ask me to join your hunting party. We'll show Fern what we can do! Oh yeah, I can see it now. You and me—thwipp, kerblooie! Watch out, world!

Adept rank already? What, seriously? Huh. You're not bad at this. But can you handle some extreme foraging? Yeah, maybe like gathering honey on Mount Snowpeak? Bet you can't do it—least not as easy as I can. Sneaking past all those freezy beasts up there? No way, not as good as I can. But if Fern has faith in you, maybe I do too. So get to foraging!
No one forages for honey better than me. Oh, yeah! That's why they call me Huntin' Pete!

No way! You're an Expert THIS fast? How is that fair? You just keep ranking up, while Fern's now telling me I'm not cut out for this? She actually said I should just hang up my bow and focus on sheepherdery! Oh, whatever. Maybe I'll just surprise you all and become a legendary honey forager!
Ugh, Fern says I'm only good for sheepherdery. And you just keep getting better. I'll never catch a girl's eye if I'm just standing around here for the rest of my Life.

So...I guess...um... I guess that congrats— Ugh. Congratulations. There, I said it. No big deal. I'm happy for you. Sort of. Anyway, here. Take this.
By the way, I spoke my mind to Master Fern. Told her I really want to be a better Hunter. She said I've got to take it more seriously. Said I could hurt myself by being such a clown. A clown?! Can you believe she said— Ugh, I guess she's right, though. I thought I was acting brave, but I was just a fool. But I do want to be a Hunter, like my granddad was. I want to be just as good—even way better! So maybe I've got my head on straight now. We'll see how it goes.

Wow, a Hero now... Congratulations. You know, my granddad was a good Hunter too. He always wanted to hunt the Blizzard Bird. I always thought I might head to Tortuga Archipelago on my own to hunt it someday. But I bet you'd actually get that bird, wouldn't ya? Hey, I'm not saying I can't—just that you MIGHT. Yeah, don't think I'm giving up the Hunter's Life. Otherwise, how could they call me Huntin' Pete?
I keep asking Master Fern to give me more tips on how to use my bow better. I tell her that I'll do anything—clean her house, do the weeding, whatever it takes. It's only a matter of time before she realizes how serious I am these days!
I keep asking Master Fern to give me more tips on how to improve my bow skills. I tell her that I'll do anything—sweep her floor, wash her windows, whatever! She's gotta realize how serious I want to take the Hunter's Life now!
You're a Legend now? Really? Whooee—that's pretty epic! Couldn't be happier for you, buddy! What? Did you think I wouldn't be? Bah. All that junk from way back is behind us. Ha! 'Specially now that Fern's helping me again. She said I should be more like you. So, look, you're Legendary and not being all boasty about it. I realize now that's the way a Hunter should act. I gotta focus on hunting, not all that big talk!
Good as you've gotten, you still really haven't changed at all, have you? A Legendary Hunter, but just as humble, and you still look like every hunt's exciting. Yeah, I'm going to be just like you someday. No more of that thwipp-kerblooie attitude for me.

So I bet you're aiming for an even higher rank, aren't you, buddy? Ha. I heard it from Master Fern. You're going to push for the Creator rank!
Best of luck going for that Creator rank. I'll be rooting for you. Even though, hmm... I don't really know what the Creator rank is. Master Fern isn't even sure, and she knows everything!

Well, look at you, buddy. You made Creator rank! I bet Master Fern is proud of you, huh? She doesn't pay compliments all that often. Ugh, isn't that the truth... Have you told her yet? Well, even if she doesn't jump up and down all excited... I'm sure she'll be the proudest she's ever been in her whole Life. *sigh* Lucky you.
Since the day we met, always better than me... Always standing in your shadow... But you know what? I'm a better Hunter now, because I can always look up to you!
