The Fledgling Wizard Spiritbound

Meeeow.
Welcome. Purrfect timing. So you want to become a Wizard, eh?
I take it by your stunned silence that you haven't met many talking cats.
One must always expect the unexpected in this line of work, meow.
As a Wizard, you'll encounter many mysteries. Talking cats are just the tip of the iceberg!
So think carefully, meow... Do you believe in talking cats?
Because if you don't believe in talking cats, maybe this talking cat won't believe in you!
Speaking of mysteries, here's a real stumper for you: How does Lunares hang in the sky? Eh?
Aw, hiss! Can't take a little gentle ribbing?
I know just where to begin your training. Why don't you go catch me a mouse or something?
A cat who loves mice... Too much of a cliché, eh?
I'm not so sure about this one.
But
Wizards who can't do magic aren't Wizards. They're magiCAN'Ts. Meowhaha!
Just a little light humor to keep us all on our paws.
But enough of that. We're wasting my nine lives with all of this joking around! Here—take this.
Hazel, be a dear and teach
Back so soon?
I hope that wand did the trick for you!
Meow! That's good to hear.
Oh, Nox. I completely forgot you were here.
Apparently, Collinsworth here has been catnapping on the job, meow. Quite the snoozer, this one!
Fear not, Hazel, my pet.
I've secretly placed a spell on him. No magical powers for the rest of the day!
Nox needs to learn his lesson, Hazel. Let's see how he acts when he realizes he can't use magic!
But back to Collinsworth. The poor man can't get a wink of sleep at night, thanks to a nasty Spooky.
Hazel, dear, there's no reason to be afraid of Spookys!
Some people are afraid of black cats...
But as you know, we're really just kittens at heart.
Perhaps Spookys are similarly misunderstood.
That's rather narrow minded of you, dear.
Hmmm. If Hazel is too frightened to tackle this problem, we'll have to rely on [Player]...
Pay heed, [Player]! Being a Wizard isn't just about playing with spirits and waving a wand...
You'll also be expected to catch these supposedly fearsome and fur-ocious Spookys, as well.
Hazel, I know you're a scaredy-cat, but you're a Wizard first and foremost!
It is. Collinsworth, leave it to my pupils to restore peace to your haunted chapel.
You'll be catnapping peacefully soon, Collinsworth. My pupils will catch your Spooky.
*purr*...*purr*
Oh! Meow there!
So you defeated the Spooky! Most impressive, you two.
Patience, you naughty little magican't.
But without your magic, you still managed to set things right with Collinsworth and your sister.
I'd say that having your powers taken away forced you to grow up a little bit, young Nox.
And [Name 2] here managed to find Hazel without using any magic at all, meow!
Because of you, Collinsworth can once again sleep as sound as a kitten.
That was quite an adventure for your first foray into the wizarding world, [Name 2].
I hope you've learned that magic can't solve all of the world's problems.
But it certainly is fun to use, meow!
I might even go so far as to say it's pawsitively spellbinding!
Let's tally up [Name 2]'s results, shall we?
Just as I thought! Congratulations, my dear. You are now a true Wizard.
Hazel is a certified wizarding instructor. She'll teach you the basics, meow.
The first step to using magic is making friends with the various spirits. Once you learn to do that, you'll be well on your way to becoming a Wizard! Just follow Hazel's lead—she's an excellent teacher.
You know, friendly Spookys aren't unheard of...
Lend Hazel a paw, won't you? Meow ha ha!
Bless my whiskers. You want to skip the tutorial and just update your license, meow?
Let me ask you one more time: Are you certain this is what you want to do? [Choice: Yes / No]
It seems
But I like it when my students are a little bit... rebellious.
Hazel, my pet. Time for incantation practice! Repeat after me: meeeow.
See? An obedient Wizard doesn't make for a very interesting Wizard, meow.
Seems my little joke has gone over your head, Hazel.
Let's just move on to the basic principles of magic, shall we?
An exciting lesson, meow? How ambitious of you to prepare such a lesson!
How disappointing, meow.
No matter. Your license, as promised. As to you not participating in the tutorial... It's no fur off my back!
You're a Fledgling Wizard now, meow. I suppose congratulations are in order!
But don't go thinking you're the cat's meow, meow. There's still much more for you to learn...
And remember, our strength comes primarily from the spirits. We're practically powerless without them.
I expect you to work on your spells and incantations daily. Purractice makes purrfect!
Take on interesting and exciting challenges, and report back to me every meow and again.

The Wizard's Tale

Well done, my friend. Let's celebrate together, meow!
I'm quite pleased with your progress. But you've barely scratched the surface of what you can really do once you're proficient at magic.

Jinx

*purr...purr...* Meeerrroooowwww... *cough* AHEM! Pardon me. There must be a hair ball stuck in my throat. You seem nonplussed. Is it because I'm coughing up a hair ball, or is it that I'm a talking cat? Or perhaps you have a fear of black cats? We're actually considered lucky in the wizarding world. If you agree, then I can certainly make a real Wizard out of you!
Bark! Woof! Arf! What do you think of my animal impressions? I'm still working on the more...base creatures. Perhaps I'll stick to my feline appearance and countenance. It seems to suit me.
The best place to hone your skills is out in the field. Go and explore Reveria! Become one with nature. The elements—fire, water, air, earth—must be at your beck and call!
I can sense you've not progressed very far in your wizarding training. Remember, I can't teach you everything. You must learn from your other Master—Mother Nature! Come back and see me once you've communed with Mother Nature and learned her secrets...
Every monster you meet in battle has a weak point. Remember that! Plant monsters completely wither before fire, for example, so hit them with fire spells. If you consider your target carefully before you attack, you'll save yourself time and energy.
Wizards do not charge into battle like big, blustery soldiers. We tread very carefully. Therefore, you must plan to exploit your enemy's weak points before you attack, meow.
Spookys typically appear after the sun sets. On peaceful nights like these, they can be quite playful! You may find them prowling among the trees in the northern part of the East Grassy Plains. Just head down the Elderwood path. But be cautious—those Spookys like a midnight snack!
You catch on quickly, A-purr-entice! So how goes your kinship with the spirits? Keep in mind they're not all friendly... Some are fur-ocious! Some are feral! I've heard rumors that the Spirits of Earth of the Elderwood have been particularly nasty of late. As a Wizard, it's your duty to quell rebellious spirits. You must put them in their place! I leave it in your capable paws, meow. Take care of it, if you haven't already!
By the way, have you yet visited Port Purrrrrrrrrr— Purrrrrrrrrr— *ahem* Port Puerto? I sent one of my assistants off to complete an important task, but I've heard naught from him. However, one of my many contacts in the wizarding world recently caught sight of him in Port Puerto. He's a Plushling by the name of Bumbles—a silly, bumbling thing. I thought he could at least do this one task! Purrhaps I was wrong to trust a walking, talking toy.

Look what the cat dragged in! An Adept Wizard, by the look of it. Your skills are growing by leaps and bounds. Purrhaps you need a new skill to hone. The Falling Star technique should serve you well in your travels. If those travels should ever take you to Al Maajik, be sure to visit Esmerelda's Academy of Magic. All sorts of surprises to see in that place, meow. Strange, indeed...
The Falling Star attack is a special technique only Wizards can perform. If you decide to flirt with some other Life, you can kiss the Falling Star good-bye...

Don't you look like the cat who swallowed the canary! As you should, Expert Wizard [Player]. An Expert such as yourself must be ready for a more challenging assignment, meow? Then listen up! A vicious spirit plagues the deepest corners of the Elderwood. Perhaps you've already met up with and defeated the ferocious Forest Wraith. But if you haven't yet come face to face with this spirit, use caution when you engage it in battle!
Don't make any sudden moves! We cats have a tendency to pounce on anything that scurries. Mice, of course. And butterflies too... Oh, those fluttery things are such a delight to chase! With all that pouncing, humans shouldn't be surprised that we felines need so many catnaps.

You've made it, my friend. You've reached the rank of Master Wizard! That's a fine rank, as I should know. But don't let your powers go to your head. Wizards who think too highly of themselves have a tendency to fall from great heights. But I'm sure you'll take your new skills with a slice of humble pie, eh? In any case, here's a gift—a piece of furniture any Wizard would love!
You might believe that because I'm a cat, I only think of myself. Nothing could be further from the truth! My mind is always on my students, unless I'm eating...or napping...or playing with a sunbeam. You'd think that, as a Wizard, I'd have self-control— but I'm completely powerless against sunbeams!

Aha! A Wizard who has attained the rank of Hero should surely be able to pacify a simple spirit, eh? Of course, the spirit I have in mind is not so simple. It's actually...well, it's pretty fur-sheddingly scary. They call it the Calamitus, and it haunts the Ancient Ruins near Al Maajik. Purr-haps you've already faced this spirit. But if you haven't yet, you must now! Have I scared you off yet? No? Good. Hie you to Al Maajik, and strike fear into that beast of darkness.
Dark spirits possess breathtaking strength, but we Wizards are forbidden from using their power. The reason why should come as no surprise: darkness can take control of the heart and the mind! You may think you are the one using the darkness... when in reality, the darkness is using YOU. Better Wizards than we have succumbed to the enticing power of the darkness... Don't let the dark spirit Calamitus seduce you!
The spirits are not our enemies, although sometimes we must quell their fiery tempers. Keep in mind this wizarding motto: we do not defeat the spirits; we entreat them. And we wield their power, of course! That is something even the strongest Paladin can't do.
You're a Legendary Wizard now, although you still look a bit like a raggedy youngster... But who am I to judge outward appearances, meow? Myah ha ha! In all seriousness, I see you're intent on building up a Legendary legacy. Kudos to you! However, one must always bear in mind that pride goeth before a fall... You get your power from the spirits, not the other way around. So respect them, and nature as well! That's enough of a lesson for today. Continue with your adventures! I should like to accompany you one day, but there's a pool of sunlight calling my name...
Long ago, it was the spirits who kept the peace in this world. But that time has passed. It's now the duty of the Wizards to keep everyone in line, meow! The days of the spirits are on the decline. Just look at all the advancements humans have made! Castles, waterwheels, airships—an amazing array of items made without magic! But still, humans need Wizards to protect the world. A most im-purrrrr-tant job, indeed.

You know cats have a keen sense of hearing, correct? Which is why I was so surprised to hear that you are attempting to reach the Creator rank! An ambitious task, indeed. I wonder what you hope to achieve with such a title... But at any rate, you are my student, and I'm quite proud of you. Here—take this!
You, my dear student, are looking magnificent. The Life of a Wizard certainly suits you. But you seem to have little need for a Master any longer, now that you are reaching for Creator rank. Purrrhaps I should wash my paws of you!

Are the stories true? Have you really reached the rank of Creator? I've only heard tell of such Wizards in books of yore. You are a living legend!
I'm not quite sure what responsibilities a Creator- ranked Wizard must take on... I suppose that's up to you, meow! Whatever you decide, take your duties to heart. You shall inspire a new generation of Wizards!

You've been busy, my friend. Let me tally up your results for you...
Am I supposed to be impressed? You've accomplished nothing of note!
Excellent work, Apprentice [Player]. Of course, you'll have to fight hard to reach the next rank. A cat in gloves catches no mice!
You're becoming quite a force to reckon with, Adept [Player]. But keep your ears pricked! The voices of the spirits are sometimes no more than a whisper.
Salutations, Expert [Player]. I would bow down to you, if only a cat could bow. The spirits have put their trust in you, apparently. You must possess a delicate touch with them!
And so you've reached the rank of Master [Player]... It seems my job here is done! Perhaps I should just put up my paws and relax now, eh? Ha! I'm only pulling your tail. I have much wisdom left to impart to you, young one. But for now, let's put away the books and lessons and put on our party hats! It's time to celebrate!
A Hero already, eh? Yes, that cat's out of the bag! News of your accomplishments has reached far and wide. But as you know, we Wizards turn up our whiskers at praise and glory. What we do, we do for the betterment of humankind—and catkind, of course. However, there's no harm in accepting accolades from King Erik...and I believe he has a gift for you. He'll be expecting you, so scurry off to the castle!
You've reached the rank of Legendary Wizard, a feat few have accomplished. A fine title... but a title nonetheless. Just a simple word. What's more impressive than your new rank is the fact that you've gained the trust of the people. A Wizard must always be humble, but I do hope you feel a smidgen of pride in your exploits. And as a newly minted Legendary Wizard, you must now report to your king! No doubt he considers you the pick of the litter, meow.
You're still just a Fledgling, but have no fear. Your wizarding career has only just begun!
I see you're still floundering through the rank of Apprentice... Don't lose heart! Every great Wizard had to start at the bottom. Even me!
You certainly look like the cat who swallowed the canary! And I think I know why... Is it because you're an Adept Wizard now? Well, you should be pleased with yourself! I see a long and powerful Life as a Wizard before you.
The rank of Expert is nothing to sneeze at... unless, of course, you happen to be allergic to cats! But it isn't the highest rank, now, is it? Then you must continue to fight the good fight!
Once you were nothing but the runt of the litter... but look at you now, Master Wizard! Of course, you're not yet purrfect. There is still much for me to teach you!
Have you been to see the tiniest king in all the land? I hear he has a gift for you... Oh, don't look so shocked. The king knows he is of a small stature. I'm not committing treason! Or purrhaps I am! Either way, it would be silly to try a cat for treason. We're slippery creatures.
If you've already reported to the king, then you are welcome to go off and commune with nature. A Wizard who works hard deserves to play hard, does

Ah, it's [Player]. What a delight to see you! To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? [Choice: Report / Chat / Forget it]
Ah, it's [Player]. What a delight to see you! It's rather late to be paying a social visit. To what do I owe the pleasure? [Choice: Report / Chat / Forget it]
I am afraid I only associate with Wizards. Become a Wizard and try again, meow.
Well, look who the cat's dragged in! It's good to see you again, [Player]. Excellent timing, by the way. A spirit needs to be dealt with, and you're just the Wizard to do it. Perhaps you've heard tell of the Pumpking? It's a nasty spirit that's causing trouble in the Elderwood. Many years ago, my brave ancestors sealed away this spirit. No easy feat, I promise you that! But the march of time has laid waste to the seal that once held in the spirit, and now it's loose. I entreat you to defeat this mischievous spirit before it can do further harm. Defeating this spirit is the only way to bring peace to the souls of my ancestors, you see. If you want to hear more about this challenge, let me know!
Ah, it's [Player]. What a delight to see you! To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? [Choice: Special Request / Chat / Forget it]
Aha! So will you defeat the Pumpking for me? [Choice: Certainly! / Uhh...no.]
Excellent! I knew I could depend on my prize pupil. The spirit known as the Pumpking is wreaking havoc in the Deep Elderwood, meow. You must defeat the Pumpking and bring me the [Name 2] as proof. Hmm. Now that I ruminate on it, I feel as though I should accompany you on this quest. Not that I think you can't handle it yourself! I simply hear the mewls of my ancestors inspiring me to action!
Hmm... I wasn't expecting you to turn down the chance to make Reveria a safe place. You must think you're not ready for such a challenge. I'll be here if you change your mind.
The proof is in my paws. You have slain the Pumpking! Perhaps it's a cliché, but you truly are the cat's pajamas!
Now my ancestors can rest easy. [Player], my furriend, take these. A token of thanks fur slaying the Pumpking. I'm a-fur-aid they're a bit grubby... But just give them a wash and they'll sparkle! Mya ha ha!
If you'd like to try the request again, just let me know, meow. Oh, you don't wish to purr-lay fur sport? Well, fear not. I'll have another shiny coin fur you. Mya ha ha!
The Pumpking is causing trouble in the Deep Elderwood. Slay him and bring me back the [Name 2]!
Am I hearing you right? You want to abandon your plan to slay the Pumpking? [Choice: Yes, please / ((No! I shall fight!]
Then I wish you luck, my friend. The Pumpking is in the Deep Elderwood. Perhaps I should accompany you on such a dangerous task...
I never took you for a scaredy-cat! Be sure to let me know if you ever change your mind.
