The Fledgling Tailor Sew Some Devotion!

Oh, hello there! You must be my new pupil. Welcome, welcome.
The Guild said you'd be coming. Of course, I'm delighted to welcome a new student to the fold.
My name is Purl. It's so nice to meet you!
And that furry little thing over there is Spoolie.
Spoolie! This is [Name 2]. Come say hello to
Spoolie? Are you listening to me?
Isn't that sweet? He's all wrapped up in his work and his singing. I don't think he even heard me!
Spoolie and I will try to teach you everything that a proper Tailor ought to know.
Well, to learn to sew, one must...sew! So let's get you straight to work. Here. Take this.
Take good care of your needle, young
You'll be amazed by what you can create using that little sliver of metal and some thread.
Well, I think you just might be ready to tackle an assignment, [Name 2]!
Let's start with something nice and easy. How about making some Dandelion Cotton for me?
Oh dear. I almost forgot to give you the pattern. That's the most important part!
You'll need Dandelion Puffs for the cotton. You can either buy them or forage for them.
If you want to know the best place to find materials, just ask Spoolie!
But you'll have to wait for him to finish singing. There's no stopping him when he gets like this!
Are there Dandelion Puffs in your ears, Spoolie? We've been talking to you! This is [Name 2].
I told you
Spoolie, I hate to rain on your parade, but it looks like you still have a lot of work to do...
Finished already? Let me take a look...
Oh, you've done a fine job! Straight stiches, nice lines, no puckering... Well done!
You seem to be Tailor made for this Life! Ho ho!
And it's not an easy Life, let me tell you! A good Tailor is diligent and precise.
Sewing sounds simple, but a lot goes into it, from gathering materials to the final stitch.
Well, I think you're finally ready for a real assignment. Exciting, huh?
Now, there's another student of mine here in Castele.
Her name is [Player]. I think you met her in front of the chapel.
How do you know that, Spoolie? Were you at the chapel as well?
Yes, I suppose that's true.
Well, no matter. What I meant to say is that Taylor just stopped by with a friend of hers.
She needs some help making a certain item. Here. Let me show you!
Such a lovely garment!
I've got Spoolie working on a task right now, so I'd like you to take on this assignment, [Player]!
I'm sure you'll do a bang-up job.
Why don't you go speak with Taylor to find out more about this assignment?
Now, if I recall, Taylor and her friend Zippy were headed over to Zippy's shop.
That's over in Castele Square. I'm sure you can find them there!
Off you go, then!
Well done, you two! I'm just bursting with pride.
All's well that ends well, I always say. And this adventure ended very well, don't you think?
You're not talking about Chic, are you?
He does indeed. Chic was one of my finest students back in the day.
I suppose it just slipped my mind! Anyway, that was years ago.
But he was in Castele earlier, you say? I wish he would have dropped in to say hello...
He certainly has turned out to be a fine Tailor— excellent sewing skills and a heart of gold!
I can see you heading down the same path, [Name 1]. You have talent AND compassion!
Just look at you—your first paying job, and already you're tailoring like a real pro. I'm so proud!
Don't forget to give yourself a pat on the back, Taylor. It was kind of you to help a friend in need.
I mean it! You two seem to have the most important qualities a Tailor needs...
...Skill and heart!
You've got to take those two things and weave them together to create—
Spoolie! Are you listening to this? I'm doling out some very heartfelt advice right now!
I think Spoolie has already taken my advice to heart. Look at him go!
What's that? There must be cotton in my ears. I didn't hear a thing. *giggle*
Back to my heartfelt advice! Listen up, [Player]. You too, [Name 2].
Those things are important, of course! You can't call yourself a Tailor if you can't sew a straight stitch.
But you won't get very far in this Life if you don't put your heart into your work.
Sounds silly, doesn't it? But it's not really. A little heart makes all the difference!
But while we're on the subject, a bit of pride in your work wouldn't hurt, either.
Of course, you also need a good needle. That's the most important tool in your sewing basket!
And good fabric. No one's going to hire a Tailor who doesn't use the best fabric available!
Now that I think about it...the most important part of being a Tailor is definitely customer satisfaction.
Yes, forget what I said about heart! This Life is all about keeping your customers happy!
Hmm...but customers can always sense if you have a good heart. So maybe heart IS the most—
Well, never mind all that. What you DO need to know is that Tailors don't make just clothes.
We can do so much more! Let me show you...
Now, then...I mustn't forget to tally up your results. Let's see how you performed!
I'd say you're well on your way to becoming a successful Tailor, [Name 1]!
But no slacking off! You need to master different types of tailoring and earn lots of Stars.
Pretty soon your thumb will have such tough skin that you won't even need a thimble! That's the true mark of a first-class Tailor!
Ha ha! Have I just started a friendly competition between you two?
I love hearing you say you want to improve, Taylor. That's the spirit!
You can turn to Spoolie for help with sewing or if you want to know where to find materials. But you may have to wait for him to finish singing. Look at him go!
You should be able to find Taylor in West Castele. I'd wager she's out in front of the chapel, needle and thread in hand. You can't miss her!
Ooh, your first sewing assignment. How exciting! I know you'll do just fine, [Player].
Taylor should be in Zippy's shop. If you get a move on, you should be able to catch her.
A needle and thread are easy to come by. What a Tailor really needs is a strong heart.
You finished making the Fluffy-Ribbon Top! I do believe Zippy will be waiting for you.
Just the license, you say? I suppose that means you won't be needing my instruction, either...
Such a hasty decision!
But I was impatient too when I was your age. Now, you're sure you don't want me to tutor you? [Choice: Yes / No]
Got ants in your pants, eh?
I know you're eager to start your new Life as a Tailor, but be sure to pace yourself.
Of course, people appreciate a Tailor with a little get-up-and-go! Some moxie! Pizazz, even!
But if you work too quickly, you may miss a stitch here and there. And that won't do!
Why, you wouldn't want one of your creations to fall apart on your customer, would you?
Folks pay us good Dosh to—
—so they expect their clothes to—
Spoolie! You sing like an angel, dear. But must you sing so LOUDLY?
Listen to this one doling out the advice! I can't believe he finally said something that made sense.
It actually DOES help to visualize your customer as you work—you know, picture their form.
That way you can imagine how the clothes will look on the person who's going to be wearing them!
Now, no Tailor worth
Oh! And the license too, of course. Mustn't forget that. Can't have you practicing without one!
I expect amazing things from you, young
Spoolie's really taken a shine to you. Be a dear and treat him like a friend, won't you?
There are others in my "sewing" circle, hee hee. You would have met them during your lessons...
if only you had taken lessons from me. But I'll tell them to treat you right just the same!
Best of luck to you in your new Life as a Tailor! You're on your own now. Just don't forget to report back to me as you complete challenges.

The Tailor's Tale

Today is a day to kick back and celebrate! Just watch me let loose!
Well done! I'm so proud of you. Remember, your customers expect nothing but the best from you. Keep making beautiful clothes!

Madam Purl

I came to Castele from Port Puerto to train young would-be Tailors in this, the most important of crafts. Nimble fingers are a plus in tailoring, but you need to have a flexible attitude as well. As I always say, skills can be learned, but you've got to be born with a good heart!
Port Puerto fashion is finally coming into style in Castele. And it's about time! Let me tell you—it tickles me pink to see folks wearing my original designs from back in the day!
Some folks think tailoring is a simple chore. All you need is a needle and thread, they say! But that's just poppycock. Tailoring is not for the weak of heart! Just think about it. We spend hours foraging for prime materials... And I know I've battled a ferocious beast or two in the pursuit of some rare items! But it's all worth it once you take that material home and create a beautiful piece of fashion!
Oh my, I'm so busy! So terribly, terribly busy!
Whenever you find yourself challenged by a particular task, imagine one thing... Just picture the needle and scissors as an extension of your own fingers! I know it sounds odd, but I believe you must be at one with your tools to succeed at crafting!
Dexterity...Intelligence...Focus. The three main traits of all the best Tailors! Of course, the best way to boost your brain is to eat lots of fresh fish and vegetables!

It's funny—once you've made an item a few times, you'll find you know the pattern by heart! That's definitely the key to memorizing things— repetition! Once you've memorized a pattern, you can make the item in batches. Of course, it's not like you're going to level up very quickly if you just make batch items... But it's a real Lifesaver if you're in a rush!
They say a stitch in time saves nine...but I always say memorizing a pattern saves time! I must know about a million patterns by heart. Best way to make lots of everyday materials. Sometimes the simplest materials work best for the most complicated patterns. So it's always a good idea to be properly stocked up on basic materials!

I must say, I think you've been a good influence on Taylor. Both of her parents are famous clothing designers, you know. Don't have much spare time, those two... I know Taylor was lonely growing up like that. But she really seems to have come out of her shell since you arrived on the scene! And you've certainly inspired Chic to take things a little more easy—which is a good thing! He used to spend his days hunched over his sewing machine...but he's a bit more relaxed now. The best Tailors know how to infuse their work with a little fun. You can't stress over clothes!
Taylor is lucky to have friends like you and that nice girl Zippy. But I'm a bit worried about Chic looking after my house in Port Puerto all by himself. Would you be a doll and check on him the next time you're in Port Puerto?

Congratulations on reaching Expert rank, dear. I couldn't be more proud! Now that I think about it, I suppose I should give you a challenge, shouldn't I? Hmm. I've got it! Here's an ambitious task for you! What say you sew me up a traditional-set outfit from my hometown? I realize you may not be a fan of old-fashioned clothes... So you should feel free to add any additional materials. To give it your own flavor!
Clothes made from Cashmere are no ordinary items. They're for luxury occasions, like banquets. Put extra care into your work when you're crafting an item like that. Your customers will take notice!

Master rank, indeed! I'm so proud of you, dear. Now that you're a Master, you can monogram the items of clothing you make. That way, you can get your name out there. Really create your own personal brand, you know? And if you slap your name on an item, your customers know you stand behind your work! Well, here's a present for you, just to say congratulations.
Now that you're a Master, you can use a wider range of materials. Exciting, isn't it?

Well, will you look at what we have here! It's a Hero-ranked Tailor! Just in case you didn't realize it, I'm talking about YOU, silly! Now that you're a Hero, I think it's time you face one final challenge from your Master. That'd be me, of course. Hee hee! How about making some royal soft furnishings? Have a go at a Royal Rug or some Royal Curtains.
"Royal," of course, all boils down to "something snazzy that's fit for the king!" Something that would fit nicely in his chamber with his other fine furnishings. Finding the right materials won't be easy... but I know you can handle it! See how fancy you can get with this assignment, won't you?

You've reached the Legend rank! Well done, you! I've been hearing things about you, you know. All good things! Things like, you're a hard worker. And you've been kind to Taylor and Chic too! Don't you ever go changing on me! The world needs more Tailors like you, dear.
I know you're a Legend now...but don't you go changing a single thing about yourself, hear me?
I know you're a Legend now...but don't you go changing a single thing about yourself, hear me?
Hello, dear. You seem to be bursting at the seams with happiness! That wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that you're designing clothes for the gods now, would it? Yes, I heard all about that on the rumor mill. Sounds like a load of silliness to me! But can you just imagine if you really could design such clothes? Why, you'd be unstoppable! Either way, it just makes me happy to see you with such a glow about you. Here's a gift for you!
Sometimes you're faced with a challenge that seems somewhat daunting. But remember this: you can handle anything the world throws at you! That's because you're a Tailor, and a true Tailor knows no fear. Go forth and conquer, dear!

My word! You've reached the Creator rank. I-I-I just don't know what to say! You've done so well for yourself. Feels like it was only yesterday you came knocking at my door... You were so *sob* bright eyed and *sob* bushy tailed! Like a happy little squirrel, you were. A squirrel who could sew. A squirrel with opposable thumbs. Oh, listen to me babble on. Congratulations!
I worry about you sometimes, dear. Too much tailoring can really toughen up your hands! I know, I know. You're a Creator-ranked Tailor, and I shouldn't be so worried about you. But no matter how high in the tailoring world you get, I'll always keep an eye out for you!

It looks like you've been busy. Let me take a gander at your work.
Oh dear. It looks like you haven't done much tailoring at all! Why don't you come back later when you have a little bit more to show for yourself?
Congratulations, Apprentice [Player]! You're not quite a household name yet, but I can tell you're going to be big in the fashion world!
Congratulations, Adept [Player]! You're building a name for yourself, I see. Well, keep up the good work! I expect great things from you!
Congratulations, Expert [Player]! I keep seeing your creations in store windows. Must feel pretty nice!
Congratulations, Master [Player]! You've been working your fingers to the bone. How about taking a break? I'd like to throw you a little party—you know, to celebrate all of your grand achievements!
Congratulations, Hero [Player]! Now that I think about it, there aren't enough Heroes in the Tailor folklore. We don't do it for the glory, after all! We do it because we love seeing people wear our designs. But you obviously know all that, dear. By the way, it seems the king would like to have a word with you! You'd better pop off to the castle and report to him as a Hero for the first time! Ooh, it's so exciting—you ranking up to Hero, rubbing elbows with the royal family... Things sure have changed since you came to town! Not to get all emotional on you, but *sob!* I certainly am proud to call you my student.
Congratulations, Legendary [Player]! "Legend." That word feels so strange in my mouth! It makes you sound like some mythical Tailor from days past... But in reality, your designs are the most modern and cutting edge on the market today! Enough about that. You're due at the castle, dear! The king wants to have a word with you. Apparently he has a special gift for you. Some sort of reward for reaching the Legend rank! Off you go now. I simply can't wait to see what items you'll craft as a Legendary Tailor!
My little Fledgling... You've quite a way to go!
My little Apprentice... Keep your nose to the grindstone, my dear. You'll do great things!
Such an adept Adept Tailor, hee hee... You're really making a name for yourself now!
My pupil—an Expert Tailor! Why, it just about takes my breath away. Keep on stitching, dear!
My Master Tailor! You are a true artist now!
Have you reported to the king yet, dear? I do believe he said he has a gift for you!
Have you been to see the king, dear? I think he was expecting you to report to him. Just because you're a Legendary Tailor now doesn't mean you can forget your manners!

[Player], my dear. How can I help you today? [Choice: Report / Chat / Forget it]
[Player], my dear. Working through the night, are we? How can I help you? [Choice: Report / Chat / Forget it]
Seems like you're taking a bit of a break from tailoring. In that case, I can't really help you...
[Player], would you be a doll and take a look at this pattern for me? It's for a [Name 2], and it's a real finger twister! Spoolie's mother passed this pattern down to him. Apparently, generations of Plushlings have sewn it! I tried to make it for Spoolie once, but I'm afraid I just made a mess of it. But since you've already reached the Creator rank, I'm sure you would do a bang-up job of it! What do you say, dearie? Will you make it for me? No need to decide right now! Just think on it...
[Player], my dear. How can I help you today? [Choice: Special Request / Chat / Forget it]
So...you want to try to make the [Name 2]? [Choice: ,,I'll give it a shot! / Nope]
Oh, thank you, [Player]! Now, the materials for the [Name 2] can all be found on Terra Nimbus. You can get some Pastel Cotton from the monster called Cottonne. As for the Flower Buttons, you can find those by the waterfront. Of course, if you're looking for some company, I could certainly join you! Maybe it's your plucky attitude or a change in the air, but I feel it's high time I had an adventure! Either way, let's do our best to make a fine [Name 2] for Spoolie!
I see. Well, that's certainly a shame! Let me know if you change your mind, dear.
Why, it's practically perfect! Never mind the "practically"—it IS perfect! Thank you, [Player]. Spoolie will be thrilled!
Hmm, I wonder if there's anything that would do for a reward... Oh, I know—how about these? I found them wrapped in Spoolie's blankie... Three strange coins—never seen anything like them. They're certainly very pretty!
Give me a shout next time you feel like jaunting off to Terra Nimbus! I'm no spring chicken, but I'll do my best to keep up with you!
You can get Pastel Cotton from the monster called Cottonne. Flower Buttons can be found near water. It's as easy as that! Together we can make a fine [Name 2] for Spoolie!
How's it going with the [Name 2]? Don't tell me—you want to quit? [Choice: Yes, please / $$I'm not done yet!]
You can get Pastel Cotton from the monster called Cottonne. Flower Buttons can be found near water. It's as easy as that! Together we can make a fine [Name 2] for Spoolie!
Don't think you need to prove anything to me, dear. I know you're an excellent Tailor! No one will judge you if you decide to quit. You can always try again later!
One last pattern for you, dear... A lovely plushie! The materials aren't easy to find, but I know a dedicated Tailor like you won't be put off by that.
