The Fledgling Blacksmith Drop the Hammer!

Grandpa! Stop! Don't be rude!

I'm very sorry about that. He does that to everyone.

Oh! You must be Vulcan's new student.

Thank goodness you're here. This must mean Vulcan remembered his promise.

We hadn't heard from him in quite some time. I'd almost given up hope that anyone would come.

Say, Grandpa...aren't you about ready for your nap?

Oh my. Well, maybe some introductions then. Um, I'm Magmia, and this is my grandfather, Steele.

Now...the reason you're here...

My older brother, Ignatius, has been a member of the Paladin order for 100 days as of...today.

The poor dear has had to endure such strict training, so we... I wanted to send him a present.

Specifically, a custom-made sword from Vulcan!

Sadly, Grandpa was quite opposed to sending him any sort of present.

But I think he'd change his tune if he saw the finished product. Do you think you can help me out?

But, Grandpa! We should show him how proud we are of him! He's stuck with it for 100 days!

Now that's going too far!

That's not the Grandpa I know and love.

Listen... I'm really sorry you had to see that.

He gets really upset whenever the topic of my brother comes up.

Anyway...here are some instructions for the sword I'd like you to work on.

I was really hoping to have it crafted with Grandpa's blessing. But I guess it's not meant to be.

Putting all that family drama aside, do you think you can help?

It's not just any ordinary recipe, so I should go with you and help find the materials.

As an up-and-coming Blacksmith, you should probably get to know some shopkeepers.

How 'bout we check out some material shops, [Name 4]?

He's heading there now. Normally he wouldn't be here at this time of day, but...

we were arguing about you.

Oh! Have you met [Name 2]?

No, no. Nothing like that.

Well, at least he has me to gripe to.

So are you on duty right now?

Oh! Did you give it to him just now as he was running out of here?

Huh. A letter. Seems like a great idea!

Hey! Iggy! CONGRATULAAAAATIONS!

Wow. I'm so sorry you got dragged into our family squabble.

I know Iggy might look tough...

but I think this hostility from Grandpa really gets to him.

That's why I thought maybe a nice, new sword would really cheer him up.

He's always complaining about how heavy his standard-issue sword is.

But I remembered some plans for a special sword that would be perfect for Iggy!

Actually, it's one of Grandpa's special-recipe items.

It's an unusually light, strong sword. Quite the feat of weapon smithing!

Grandpa says the Ironsmith himself gave him the recipe.

I just have to have it made. So let's hurry to the shops!

Hi! I'm trying to make a sword for my brother as a gift, and I need some materials.

Do you have any high-quality ingots?

Oh, yes. I noticed that too.

...A temperament adjustment?

Thank you very much! Umm...how much is that?

My... That's very sweet of you.

Hmm... We didn't find exactly what we came for, but we're getting closer!

Next we'll need some Animal Hide.

I need just a little bit more of your time. Let's go see the Hunters.

Actually, Pete...I just came by to pick up that hide I asked for.

Yes! Thanks so much! You're a Lifesaver, Pete!

Oh, yes! That's just perfect!

Say, [Name 2]...

I've been thinking about that recipe. You know, the writing?

"A Red Ingot is just a Bronze Ingot with a temperament adjustment."

The handwriting looks an awful lot like Grandpa's.

Maybe we should try asking him about it.

He's probably at the Crown right now enjoying one of Harmony's shows.

I'd love it if you could join me there.

Strange. I don't see Grandpa anywhere...

That's not like him at all. He's her number-one fan.

[Name 3], do you think Iggy managed to give his letter to Grandpa?

I'm worried, [Player]...

It's usually much easier to keep track of Grandpa. He's ornery, but he's...predictable.

But I have no clue where he could be right now. I hope he's OK.

And we really need to ask him about the Red Ingots.

Umm... You wouldn't happen to be...

the Legendary Ironsmith, would you?!

...Is what [Player] is probably wondering.

You're...older than I thought you'd be.

...Is what [Player] is probably thinking.

Y-yes, that's right...

Yes, we are. We need a gift for my brother. It's his 100th day as a Paladin, you see.

How did you...? That was amazing!

That last part was...oddly specific.

How do you know [Player]'s story?

Right. Of course.

Hey, he dropped something!

It looks like a letter.

Hold on a sec... This letter... It's Ignatius's letter... to Grandpa...

Why in the world would the Legendary Ironsmith have Iggy's letter to Grandpa?

...Is no doubt what you're thinking, [Player].

I think we kinda need to read it. You know...for investigative purposes. Here goes.

I'm really sorry about not becoming a Blacksmith like you wanted me to.

I know we're not on good terms, but I can't help thinking about all the things you've taught me.

You once told me, 'Fear leads to failure.'

To be honest, not a day goes by when I'm not thinking of some of the ways I might fail.

But when I consider how strong and committed you are to your work and family, I'm able to keep going.

But when I consider how strong and committed you are to your work and family, I'm able to keep going.

I know you're really angry that I quit right in the middle of my Blacksmith training.

I'm sorry, Grandpa. I'm kind of shocked about it myself, but it was something I felt I had to do.

I'm a Paladin now, and I'm going to do this job the way you would do it—by giving it all I've got!

I won't stop at 100 days! I'll keep at it for a gazillion days and beyond!

I see how much you've achieved as a Blacksmith. And I want to do the same for myself as a Paladin.

These are my honest feelings, Grandpa. I hope you can forgive me.

And I do hope you read this letter. ￤

Somehow Iggy must have gotten his letter into Grandpa's hands. Grandpa must have read it...

and had a change of heart. But he's so stubborn, he couldn't just admit he was wrong.

That's why he dressed up like... No. Never mind.

Anyway, looks like you've got some work to do! You should head back to Vulcan's workshop.

I don't want to get in the way, so I'll be waiting back at my place.

Sorry to barge in, but I was getting anxious! So...how's the sword, [Player]?

You mean...you did it? It's done?!

You're amazing, [Player]! Thank you so much!

I bet Iggy will be more motivated than ever to keep up with his training!

Grandpa...you have a funny look in your eye... But OK...

AAAH! Grandpa, what're you DOING?!

Ohmydosh... Now that's the grandpa Iggy and I know and love!

Reminds me of when you used to show Iggy how to use a hammer.

So, Grandpa...I guess then you've forgiven Iggy?

I think that's about as cooperative as he's going to get...

"Grandpa away"? Why does he sound like the Legendary Ironsmith?

...Is what [Player] is thinking, I bet! Hee hee!

Thank you so much for all your help. My brother is going to be so happy!

Oh! Before I forget...here's your payment!

I'm off to the castle to give Iggy his present. He'll celebrate his 100th day in style thanks to you!

Um...Magmia away!

[Player]! What are you doing? You've got to forge the sword! We can talk later!

Thanks again! I hope you become the best Blacksmith in Castele.

Magmia

You've already decided on a Life? You're so lucky! There're so many choices, I simply can't decide!

I love Grandpa, I really do. But he never stops complaining... I even hear him complain in his sleep.

I can't thank you enough for all your help. I've never seen Iggy so happy before! Oh, that's right! Iggy told me to send along his thanks. He really appreciates what you've done. Maybe you should go over and talk to him in person. He should be at the Paladin's Hold. Ah yes! And here's a token of my gratitude. They're Grandpa's favorite. Enjoy!

Sorry...I'm busy right now. Can you come back later?

Do you know which traits are most important for Blacksmiths? It's Vitality, followed by Strength and Focus. In fact, they're not much different from the traits important to Paladins! That's why Iggy was able to change his Life so easily! Uhh, that is...Grandpa notwithstanding.

I know how Grandpa must seem to those around him, but in actuality, he's quite the amazing Blacksmith. He's an encyclopedia of smithing know-how! Speaking of which, someone came seeking his skills just a little before you became a Blacksmith. The man was from Port Puerto, a self-proclaimed hero. But there was a suspicious air about him. Grandpa was supposed to make a weapon for him, but I don't know...

You know how Grandpa can be. So the "hero" became enraged and left. Hey, [Player]. Could you do me a favor? If you ever find yourself in Port Puerto, could you try to clear up this misunderstanding with him?

Oh, [Player]! I heard you became an Adept Blacksmith! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! You ranked up quickly! I'm very impressed! Oooh, maybe you're some sort of Blacksmith prodigy. Do you think? Maybe I can tag along with you the next time you go out to get materials! Remember, gathering materials yourself will save you quite a bit of Dosh. It pays to be thrifty! Literally!

Iggy is still maintaining his post over at the Paladin's Hold. I'm sure he's doing his absolute best!

Congratulations on becoming an Expert Blacksmith! You know what makes for a surprisingly strong crafting material? Seashells! It's true! Shell armor is all the rage over in Port Puerto! It's, umm..."muy en fuego," as they say there. You should really try your hand at making some items out of seashells!

It goes without saying, but you can find seashells on the beaches of Port Puerto.

You're a full-fledged Master Blacksmith now! Wait for it... TA-DA! Here's a gift to commemorate your Master status! It's been passed down in our family for generations. It's what you might call a...a... Oh, what's the word? A family hair-loom! No, wait. Let's try that again. A family HEIRLOOM. *whew* It's a secret craft, so take good care of it!

To be honest, that craft I gave you earlier is actually one of Grandpa's old crafts. ...Although he never did tell us where we're supposed to find the ingredients. This little mystery seems like it's right up your alley, don't you think, [Player]? O-oh! Don't tell Iggy I said that. He'd be crushed if he knew you were figuring it out when he hasn't been able to.

Oh, [Player]. Do you have a moment? It's about Grandpa. It's almost like he doesn't know I exist... I mean, he's so focused on Iggy being the one to carry on his Blacksmith legacy. I've got to admit, it's rather shocking how utterly obsessed he is by it. But what about me? I could keep the forge lit just as well as Iggy could. I understand he worries about me, but... It's useless trying to talk about it. He won't hear it. Arguing with Grandpa is like arguing with a wall. He wouldn't bat an eyelid if I were Iggy.

Thank you so much for hearing me out.

Thank you so much for hearing me out.

Congratulations on reaching Legend rank! You're truly a legendary Blacksmith in my book! Umm... But, uhh...to be honest, even though you're quite skilled, you're no match for Grandpa! Oh, I feel just terrible saying that... B-but don't let that get you down! I'm sure Grandpa is really happy with your progress and thinks you're quite the Blacksmith!

You've really become a capable Blacksmith. I mean...you could even be THE best in Reveria! I'm sure even Grandpa will think so too! Er, someday! Maybe! Possibly!

There's talk of there being another rank higher than Legend. Granted, it's just a rumor... What could possibly come after Legend? Don't look at me. I don't have a clue. Not even Grandpa knows what it could be. ...Oh, I almost forgot. I wanted to give you this.

You're an amazingly diligent Blacksmith, [Player]! I mean, I feel so motivated just watching you!

I heard! I heard! You reached Creator rank! CONGRATS! CONGRATS CONGRAAATS! Hee hee. Too much? Well, seeing as Grandpa isn't the type of person to praise, umm...anyone... and Iggy isn't the most articulate of speakers, I figured I had to put in three times the excitement!

CONGRATS! CONGRATS! CONGRAAATS! You know, that gets more fun the more you say it! I'm congratulating you for Iggy, Grandpa, and me!
