The Fledgling Alchemist Explosive Results

Welcome! Well met! Well, blow me down!

Looking for something special to give to that someone special? You've come to the right place!

Wait a sec... I don't think you're here as a paying customer, are you...?

You're not actually here to see me, are you?

Oh, I get it! You're one of Flamel's students!

I had a special request for Flamel, but he just laughed me out of the library. Here's what I need...

It's an accessory called a Lucky Charm!

Now, you're probably wondering what a smooth customer like me needs with a Lucky Charm...

but I'd rather not say.

Of course, if you really MUST know...I'm in love!

Head over heels, kind

Until now, I've kept my passion hidden away. But no longer! It's time to let my lady know how I feel.

There's just one problem: I'm too shy to tell her! So I thought I'd take the easy route and write her a letter.

Oh, fluffles! It's Fizz! I...uh...didn't see you there.

Oh! Are you teasing me? I don't think I can handle that right now...

All right... Where was I? Oh, yes. My ill-fated love letter...

Honestly, it all comes down to one thing: I have the worst luck of anyone who has ever lived!

I was on my way to deliver my love letter when suddenly I was attacked—by a herd of goats!

Because, you know, goats love paper. So I held the letter high in the air...but then a bird swiped it!

So now a bird has my letter. A Hunter came by and tried to shoot the bird...but he shot my letter instead!

My poor, tattered letter fell to the ground. That's when a group of bratty kids grabbed it!

They started reading it out loud, which was just too embarrassing for me to handle. And THEN... Well, I'll just leave it at that. But a lot more stuff happened. Like, a LOT.

I figured the best thing I could do was to get my hands on a Lucky Charm. No more bad luck for me!

I finally managed to find the right formula for such a valuable accessory...

But as I was taking it home, I was accosted by more paper-hungry goats. Then that bird again...

And the Hunter, and...now it's in absolute tatters.

In my desperation, I went to Mr. Flamel. But he turned a deaf ear to my pleas...or so I thought!

But YOU understand, don't you, Fizz?

Really?! You'll help me?!

Yes, I took it upon myself to memorize the formula before it got all shot up. *ahem*

"Protects the holder from the ravages of bad luck... at a cost." What do you think that means?

Yay! My Lucky Charm! Oh, you brilliant Alchemists. I knew I could count on you!

I'll finally have the luck I'll need to deliver my love letter. Please accept this as a token of my undying gratitude.

Wish me luck!

So good, so far! No goats yet!

And no crazy birds attacking me!

And no Hunters shooting at my letter!

AAAAUUUGGGHHH!!

Everything's OK! I can just...see her house!

AAAAUUUGGGHHH!!

*cough*...*splutter*...*choke*

WOO-HOO! I gave her the letter!

I need your help!

Rupert

Welcome! Well met! Well, blow me down! Looking for something special for someone special? You've come to the right place!

*sigh* Oh, Harmony, my sweet, heavenly Harmony... Your lovely face haunts my dreams...

Thank you for your gracious help, but it was all in vain, I'm afraid. I did end up getting that love letter to my love, but in the end she rejected me. She certainly was kind about it, though. That's just so...so Harmony of her. But believe me when I tell you I shan't give up! Sweet Harmony will be mine one day.

I'm so sorry, but I'm terribly busy at the moment. Please come again!

I've heard tell that a successful Alchemist must possess three qualities: Intelligence, Focus... and Luck! Hoo hoo! Looks like I fall a bit short on that last one, eh?

I've heard tell that a successful Alchemist must possess three qualities: Intelligence, Focus... and Luck! Guess that counts me out of the alchemy game, eh? I've got no luck at all!

An acquaintance of mine reaching Apprentice rank! Who would have thought it possible? Congratulations, old chum. Here. Take this as a little token of my appreciation for your assistance earlier. You can use this to make a ring, you see? And I've heard tell rings are somewhat stylish! Make sure you put it to good use, eh, [Player]?

Rings are meant to symbolize the love between two sweethearts, you know... *sigh*

Adept ranking already, eh, old sport? Well, bully for you! Speaking of crafty Alchemists, I got my hands on what looks to be an intriguing formula... It's for a special item that allows the user to see clearly in the water! Imagine that! There's no way I could ever make one of these myself, but I thought you surely could! Have a go!

I know you're supposed to wear them in the water, but I'm a bit of a trendsetter. So I'd probably wear them out and about. Maybe even on a date!

Expert rank, eh? Splendid! Absotootly, posilootly splendid! It's about time the powers that be ranked you up. Your bombs and potions are so high quality! And that means the stuff you're producing is even better than what's available in the shops... You knew that, of course... But I still felt it was important for me to point it out. You're welcome!

My sweet Harmony finally agreed to go on a date with me the other night. So naturally, I arrived at our date spot with time to spare—12 hours early, to be precise! I didn't want to be late! I couldn't fathom missing even a moment with the love of my Life! But I grew weary waiting and decided to sneak off behind a bush and close my eyes for just a second. Suddenly, I woke up, and it was HOURS later! I had completely missed my date with Harmony! Now she won't even speak with me! How quickly ecstasy can turn to despair!

Congratulations, [Player]! Who knew that I'd ever be friends with a Master-ranked Alchemist? I feel so...special. Now that you're so high up the rungs of the alchemy world, perhaps you can help me out... There's a certain item I'm keen to procure. It's called a Love Bomb. Oh, if only I had a Love Bomb, I could put some spark into my love Life!

*sigh* It's probably against your professional code of alchemy to make a Love Bomb, huh? At least when you know I'm just going to use it on the love of my Life!

Ranked up to Hero, eh, [Player]? Bully for you! I've been meaning to ask: Where do you get the ore needed to make bombs and accessories? I only wonder because it seems that purchasing ore from the shops is a fine way to drain your pocket. Especially when you could just become a Miner and simply mine the ore yourself! Of course, that would require a change of Life... a bold move indeed! But if anyone could handle that, it's you, [Player].

To make items, one must have materials. To procure materials, one must defeat beasts. To defeat beasts, one must have weapons. The person who can accomplish all that is certainly a better person than I! It takes all my focus and concentration just to run my store...

Why am I not surprised to learn that you've attained the rank of Legend? Hear, hear! Your career advancement seems like a fairy tale compared to my advances in the field of love. But I'm not giving up! I know that one day, I shall find my true love! At least, that's what I tell myself every morning as I drag myself out of bed...

Most folks are worried my bad luck will rub off on them, so they keep a safe distance. But you, my friend—you are always willing to stand within close proximity to me. I thank you for that! Perhaps some of YOUR good luck will rub off on ME! Yes, I'll just keep telling myself that...

You've certainly got a spring in your step today, friend! I wonder what's got you so bubbly? Of course! You're striving to reach the rank of Creator! That's enough to make anyone glow. Let me know when you DO reach that rank, all right? I might need your assistance again...

Harmony's not speaking to me, you know. She's still up in arms about my missing our date! I've tried by every means known to man to get back in her good graces, but to no avail. Perhaps it's time for me to throw in the towel, eh? Give up on Harmony for good? There are plenty of fish in the sea, or so the saying goes. Maybe I should set my sights on a NEW love. But no! I shall never abandon my Harmony! I shall love her till the end of my sad, lonely days...

Felicitations, my friend! You've reached the rank of Creator! No doubt you have a bevy of powerful skills at your beck and call, eh? Perhaps you'd be willing to brew me up a love potion...? No, I can't ask you that! I must fix this travesty of a love Life by myself!

I think it's time I finally admitted to myself that Harmony just isn't that "into" me... But still...she DID agree to accompany me on a date in the first place, correct? That means she doesn't find me COMPLETELY repulsive. So perhaps I still have a "shot" at her, as the young kids are fond of saying nowadays!
