The Fledgling Blacksmith Drop the Hammer!

Sheesh! You are aware that being loud doesn't make you a Master, right?

I know this isn't a library, but you should try turning it down a few notches!

Do you want to be known for the quality of your work or the volume of your voice?

Don't mind Pops. He's just excited about smithing. He's passionate but...unrefined. And way too loud.

We should teach beginners how to forge earplugs...

I'm Fyra, by the way. Umm... And you're...?

[Name 1], huh? Nice to meetcha, hammer

I can't believe he just gives you a hammer and expects you to make an ingot...

I swear, if we could harness all that wind, we could keep the forge fired up for a hundred years...

Oh, brother. Again with the air forging. Try hitting some metal for once, Pops!

He gets like this when he's really, really happy about something.

Don't tell him I told you this, but I think he's pumped about having a new pupil. It's been a while...

Hey, Pops! Save some gusto for after the tutorial!

Yeah, yeah. I hear you...

All right, [Name 1]! This here is a recipe for a Bronze Ingot.

Think of an ingot as ore that's ready to be turned into something.

We in the smithing biz like to call ingots the metallic building blocks of...stuff.

If you ever need Castele Copper to make ingots, I'm pretty sure you can buy some in town.

It might not hurt to pay the Miners a visit too. They can give you the lowdown on finding ore.

That reminds me—I was supposed to talk to Daniel down at the mines about something important...

But I'm sorta stuck keeping an eye on Boss Bellows-a-Lot here...

You should go check in with him. You'll find him down in East Castele, near the mines.

Welcome back, [Player]! Mission accomplished, I see!

Hmm... Let me think...

OK, yeah! We can make that ingot now!

So first we've got to melt down the ore. That'll get rid of the impurities.

The ore is then flexible enough to mold. We call this process smelting.

With enough skill, you can make some serious quality stuff.

Now...let me show you some basic Smithing techniques!

You can go ahead and use the forging area to make the ingot.

Remember to equip your hammer!

You did it! I gotta say, your workbench presence is impressive. You made a lot of Blacksmith noises!

Pretty good work for a first try too! Although Pops'll probably call it so-so.

But don't sweat it. So-so is about as good as his compliments get.

He's got a weird way of expressing himself, and he's kind of a smithing perfectionist.

Anyhow, that's how you make an ingot.

If you make a bunch and sell 'em, you'll earn some Dosh.

Then again, if you use ingots to make more-complex items, you'll make some serious Dosh.

But, hey. You're your own Blacksmith now. Sell what you wanna sell, keep what you wanna keep.

Er, except for that ingot! Don't sell it! Show it to Pops!

Woo-hoo! You did it, [Player]!

Uh, well, yeah...

Argh! Seriously, Pops?

I said...I seriously can't wait for your next lesson, dear Father.

Uhh... Pops?

Oh, boy. Pops is never gonna decide on your training at this rate.

Hey, Pops. I, uhh...just remembered something.

Weren't you supposed to help out Magmia with something today?

Say, Pops...can you think of anyone standing right here who might have plenty of free time to help?

Huh? What? Can't help her?

Whoa!

I've never seen him do this before, [Player]. This is quite an opportunity here.

The client's a lady named Magmia. If you help her, Pops'll fast-track your training!

One thing—watch out for Magmia's grandpa. Ol' Steele is stubborn as...steel.

But we've got faith in you, [Player]! Ain't that right, Pops?

Yeah, I figured as much... All right, all right. Allow me to explain.

We'll consider this exercise part of your Blacksmith qualification test.

This recipe is super specialized and super difficult, but it'll be worth the trouble.

I know you're probably really nervous, but don't sweat it. Just put your back into it!

Don't worry, [Name 1]! Just relax!

This is what we call a Special Recipe.

Woo! You made an OK sword! Congrats, [Player]!

We went through all that trouble! Stop it right now! You'll ruin it!

If you want to fashion an ingot, just use the forge over there.

I gotta keep an eye on Boss Bellows-a-Lot here. Why don't you go out and get some materials? The shop in town probably sells the copper you'll need for the ingots, buuut... it's probably best if you go meet with the Miners over in East Castele first. Head on over there and talk to Daniel.

I think they sell the copper for the ingots in the shops, buuut... might be good to meet with the Miners. Head to East Castele and talk to Daniel.

Woo! Go show Pops your very first ingot!

The client lives in the Artisan District. Her name's Magmia. Watch out for her grandpa, Steele... He's definitely a character.

Already met up with ol' man Steele? ...Betcha wish you hadn't!

Recipe for a Custom Bronze Sword... Hmm. Calls for Animal Hide and Red Ingots. Red Ingots? What the heck are Red Ingots? "A Red Ingot is just a Bronze Ingot with a temperament adjustment"? Wow. Well...I know you can find Animal Hide and Bronze Ingots at the shops, if that helps.

Better check in with Pops.

Sheesh! Keep it down! I bet you're the loudest Master in Reveria!

Ugh... Whatever. Let's get on with this, shall we?

Right. Name's Fyra. I'm a budding Blacksmith, too. Nice to meetcha!

Guess he expects me to do the whole tutorial thing for every new recruit.

Once you've become a Fledgling, you can come back and check in with us anytime...

POPS!

Take a look at [Name 3]'s Blacksmith License!

You can only skip your way up a rank just this once. It's all hard work from here!

We're in this together!

Fyra

Before you ask, yes, my name is Fyra, like "fire." And, yes, Pops is real original with names...

*sigh* Today must be Failsday, because I keep failing all of my items! Don'tcha just hate days like that?

Wahoo! You did it! Congrats on getting your license! From here on out you can count on me to give you the best smithing support in Castele! Well, best in this forge, anyway. Heh... My pops is the kinda person who assumes I do nothing but goof off. He doesn't take me seriously. Hm? Pops? The guy over there by the forge? *ahem* Correction: he's the LOUD guy by the forge. Seriously, you didn't know he was my pops? But I always call him "Pops"...

A little busy here! We'll talk later!

Let's start off with some of the basics, shall we? You can't forge anything without ingots, and you can't make ingots without ore. Ingots are a Blacksmith's best friend, so it pays to have lots of them on hand!

You can buy ore over at the materials shop. If you run out, restock, restock, and restock!

All right! You're an Apprentice! I'd say that calls for a little gift, wouldn't you? As an Apprentice, it means you can start using some Plains Iron. If you get real good at making ingots, pretty soon you'll be able to forge a nifty little hammer! Then you can use that new hammer to make even niftier items and equipment! It's the circle of smithing!

If you feel like your hammer just isn't quite hitting the mark, take a break with another Life. Even I need a change once in a while! Variety is the spice of Life! That ore I gave you earlier? Guess who mined it? This girl right here!

I hear you became an Adept Blacksmith! You're probably going to pass me real soon... ...Uhh, n-no, it's nothing! I'm not jealous! Anyway, you must've taken on quite the variety of smithing jobs by now, huh? How about you kick it up a notch and try forging with some higher-level materials?

Have you had a chance to visit Port Puerto or Al Maajik? You should check them out! Each town has different materials for sale!

I'm sure you must've heard all about adding extra ingredients to items when crafting. Such a handy little trick to know! Blacksmiths can add all kinds of effects to items. The possibilities are endless! For example, if you infuse Fire Mana into a Bronze Sword... you'll end up with one fired-up weapon! Literally! The sword will end up with fire properties! Pretty nifty little technique, huh?

You can change the very nature of an item by adding an extra ingredient to the craft. I mean, you're an Expert Blacksmith now, so you can try it out for yourself!

Congratulations on making it to Master rank! I know it's not much, but I want you to have this. If you use it the next time you forge, you'll have an easier time making a quality item. This is just my way of showing you how psyched I am for you! Why not use it to make yourself a special hammer to celebrate all your hard work?

There are all sorts of extra ingredients out there in the world. You might even need to switch over to another Life just to get your hands on some of them! Yup. Life sure can be tough...but them's the breaks!

You never cease to amaze, do you? I can't believe you made it to Hero rank! You're lucky. I'm always messing up my items... But Pops seems to be happy with my work, so if he's happy, I'm happy. Hey, you know what? This is the first time we've chatted since you reached Hero rank. Cool, huh? What's not cool is the fact that I won't get to lend you a hand with blacksmithing anymore. All the crafts from here on out are WAY too advanced for me. Just perfect for you, though! Here. It's kinda sorta a good-bye present. I gotcha that, so make sure you put it to good use!

I don't know if you knew this about me, but...I'm actually STILL an Adept Blacksmith. It's true! I probably should've told you that sooner. Really, REALLY sorry about not telling you. But, you know, it's been a blast helping you out, even though I've been a lower rank than you. I'm not giving up, though! It's time I get serious about my training and become a Master too!

Congratulaciónes! Heh... I figured you must've gotten all kinds of various congratulations, so I thought I'd be a little different. Since you became Legend rank, I bet there's going to be all sorts of annoying stuff you'll need to do... I know a thing or two about annoyances when it comes to smithing, believe me! You just sort of have to power through them and get on with your work. Keep this between the two of us, but Pops can be totally annoying when I'm trying to work... I mean, the man just doesn't have an inside voice. Sometimes he shouts about smithing in his sleep! I love 'im. I mean, he's my pops... Urgh, I'm getting a headache just thinking about it.

I can't stop now! I've gotta hurry up and reach Master rank so Pops will finally take me seriously!

Whoa, what gives? You look really psyched about something. Oh! Did you get a new hammer? Huh? Creator rank? I've never heard of that. I-it's a rank higher than Legend?! That is so CRAZY COOL! H-here! A gift for a job well done! Although...it might not be good enough for you now.

I never thought there could ever be a rank that was higher than Legend. Who came up with that rank, anyway? I mean, ranks don't just pop up overnight, do they?

So what new responsibilities do you have now that you've graduated up to Creator rank? Oh! Wait, wait... Is there, like, a secret handshake or something, too? You know what I mean, right? A secret handshake known only to Creator-ranked Blacksmiths! ...Huh? There isn't? That's a bummer. Oh, I bet you could easily start the trend yourself! You could call it the Smithy Shake!

I've really gotta crank it into high gear! Can't rest until I'm a better Blacksmith than Pops!
