Field talk (118 lines)

Heyho's House

I heard that in some worlds the flowers are linked to the seasons. So spring flowers bloom in spring. Summer ones bloom in summer, and autumn ones in autumn. Oh, and winter ones in winter. Amazing!

I never even thought of changing to a different Life... Does that make me weird?

The Fledgling Woodcutter Legendary Lumber, Jack!

Oh, hey! Are you the aspiring Woodcutter we heard about?

Great! All right, take it away, Forrest!

Forrest! I...I don't think that's going to cut it...so to speak.

You have to actually TEACH people how to cut the wood, remember? Not just sing about it?

Sometimes I wish I'd chosen another discipline. The other Masters actually instruct their pupils.

How is it you have so much energy to cut trees and so little to devote to anything else?

Oh! I didn't mean that...

And look, we've been ignoring this poor Novice. Sorry!

My dad sent you here to speak with Forrest, right?

Good! Well, it's nice to meet you, [Name 1].

As you might have gathered, this is Forrest, one of the most talented Woodcutters in Reveria.

And I'm Monika, a Novice Woodcutter.

I help Forrest out with various tasks, and he's teaching me the trade. Kind of.

Come on, Forrest! Now's not the time.

I think [Name 1] would really like to learn how to swing an axe today.

Well! Look who can teach up a storm when he wants to.

Good luck, [Name 1]. I've got some errands, so I'll catch up with you later.

Good luck, [Name 1]. I've got some errands, so I'll catch up with you later.

Hey, check it out, [Player]. Oak Trees!

I mean...sorry. It might have been more fun for you to discover them on your own.

I'm just trying to be helpful. I know I try a little too hard sometimes.

So I'll just stand back and let you do your thing. Good luck!

Oh, one more thing: be sure to have your axe equipped before you start!

And one last tiny, TINY thing. If you're low on SP, just drink some Apple Juice!

You did it, [Player]! Nice work!

Sorry. Did I sound too much like your instructor? Maybe I should go into teaching...

Well, anyway, you did a great job. Let's go check in with Forrest and tell him about it.

Yeah...so Forrest sometimes talks about "forest spirits." We're not sure what he means.

I mean, nobody I know has ever seen one.

What?! Are you saying I'm not a friend of the forest?

Oh yes, well, of course the Forest Lady is real. But only the Forest Protector can summon her, right?

OK, [Player], let's go!

There's a timber merchant in the Artisan District. Let's see what kinds of prices he's offering.

Aw, it was nothing. Don't mention it.

Anyway, I've come to introduce you to our newest Novice Woodcutter. Say hello to [Name 1]!

Well, technically...but it's Forrest who's really doing the teaching.

Yep, you're right, as always. These fell to [Name 1]. Not bad for a first assignment!

We've got three of them for you today, straight from the woods.

Well, how does it feel to make your first sale as an official Woodcutter, [Name 1]?

Hey, let's go tell him how the sale went. He'll probably sing you a song...

We're off! Thanks again, and see you later.

C'mon. I'll show you where the carpentry workshop is.

He's talking to someone from the castle. Maybe we shouldn't interrupt.

Maybe we should go rescue Forrest from this conversation...

Perfectly well. We got a good price for the logs.

But what's all this about you getting an Elder Log? That's a crazy request!

Right! Isn't finding a log like that simply a matter of luck?

My dad told me that some Woodcutters go their whole careers without finding a single one.

The odds of finding one randomly are like...one in a million!

It's my dad, isn't it?

But now Dad is...well...

He's certainly not cutting much wood, that's for sure.

I was just out looking for Heyho...

when I heard the whoosh and crack of a mighty axe stroke!

And it turned out to be YOU...felling one of the biggest trees I've ever seen!

Is there someone else here, [Player]? Who were you talking to?

Sorry, [Player]. I didn't mean to be rude. I'm just getting a weird feeling we're not alone.

Well, no matter. Let's get that beautiful log over to the Carpenters' workshop right away!

The Minister is going to freak out!

Well, now that you mention it... Voilà!

Oh, but it is. An authentic Elder Log.

No, sir. The Woodcutter who felled this log is standing before you right now.

Hey, we're happy to help. We're Woodcutters! Right, [Player]?

All right, I suppose we should report back to Forrest. Off we go!

Good-bye, and take care, sir!

That's right! And the Minister was overjoyed. Now they can make a special wardrobe for the queen.

Absolutely not!

[Name 2] really is a prodigy. And I think it's time for a promotion!

Right here?! What...what are you doing here?

You could start by recognizing [Name 2] as an official Woodcutter.

Congratulations, [Name 2]! You're not a Novice anymore!

Isn't that great?

If your arms are getting tired, you might be low on SP. Try drinking some Apple Juice!

Oh, it looks like you already have some.

Well, give me a shout if you need more. I'm always happy to share.

You should probably talk to Forrest first.

Have you equipped your axe? If not, just open up the Gear menu and tap the axe icon.

*sigh* I wish Dad took woodcutting more seriously...

Monika

Oh, hello there! I'm Monika. Nice to meet you. Have you met Forrest yet? He's the big guy with the axe...usually belting out a tune while he works. Not exactly hard to find.

In case you're wondering, I am technically a Woodcutter. It's just...I'm not strong enough to actually swing an axe and cut down a tree. But I'm working on that.

I'm so excited to have a new Woodcutter friend! This is gonna be great! And I really can't believe you were able to track down those Elder Logs like that. I'm inspired! Anyway, I brought you a little lunch today. It's just one way I can help out...since I can't cut trees yet.

My dad's had a hard time dealing with the mistakes he made in the past...but things are looking up. I think having a prodigy like you as a pupil will be terrific for him.

I still can't get over the fact that you were able to find Elder Logs on your first time out. Forrest can't either. He's been mumbling about it all week long. You know you've done something amazing when it causes that man to stop singing for five minutes.

I've been reading through my dad's old notes, trying to learn more about Elder Logs. He wrote, "Heavy. Sturdy. Smell of rich peat and moss. The finest timber I've ever seen." Ooh...it makes me wish I could harvest an Elder Tree for myself. Can't you just smell it?

Congratulations on making Apprentice! I'm really happy for you. Anyway, I was just talking to my dad, and he said there's someone in Port Puerto you should meet. Apparently he's quite the young Woodcutter. His name is Orlando. I think my dad's trying to instigate some kind of rivalry between you two!

So I was talking to Forrest, and he said he's met this Orlando character from Port Puerto. Forrest said he's quiet, but his axe speaks volumes. Or at least that's what I gathered from the song.

You already made Adept? Well, that's it—you're officially more experienced than I am! So...any chance I could tag along sometime when you go off on an adventure? I could really use the experience. And I'll help out in any way I can.

Of course, I'm not much of a fighter...or a Woodcutter...but I'll do my best!

If you think you're ready for a challenge, I have some information for you. Have you ever heard of the Sacred Water Tree? It grows somewhere on the Tortuga Archipelago. Legend has it that water from all over Reveria flows through the archipelago and is purified by the tree. Only a Woodcutter who earns the tree's permission will be able to harvest its logs. It would be AMAZING if you were able to track it down and bring back some Elder Logs.

Have you found the Sacred Water Tree on the Tortuga Archipelago yet? I can't wait to see what those logs look like!

It seems like yesterday you were just a Novice learning how to hold an axe. And now look at you! A full-fledged Master! Here. I have a little gift to celebrate.

Hey, I know you're doing pretty well for yourself as a Woodcutter...but have you tried another Life yet? It won't hurt your woodcutting skills to become, say, a Cook or a Hunter for a while. Ooh, or a Carpenter! Your skills would probably match up nicely with that Life. Anyway, give it a shot is all I'm saying. If anything, it might make you an even BETTER Woodcutter.

♪ I swing my mighty axe an' grin... Now power up that charge...and spin! OH! You caught me singing one of Forrest's songs. How embarrassing. At least it's about woodcutting. And not, like, about eating Mutton. Although...that song IS pretty catchy.

If there were a Singer Life in Reveria, do you think Forrest would choose it over woodcutting? You're right—he wouldn't have to choose. He'd just do both! Wait. He already does that.

Hey, I've been wanting to get something off my chest. Got a minute? First of all...I'm so happy for your success. It's been really inspiring to watch you. But I have to admit there have been times when I was jealous. I mean...it took me forever just to learn how to swing an axe. And you got it right away! But I can honestly say I've gotten past all that, and I wish you nothing but the best.

Congratulations! What do you mean on what? My dad made you the new Forest Protector, right? I know it's only an honorary title at this point, but the position has a rich history. And if anyone deserves it, it's you.

Hey, [Player]! That's funny—I was just thinking of you. Actually, I was thinking about how I haven't seen you for a while. I know you made Demi-Creator recently...right? And that obviously takes a ton of work. So you've been busy. I get it. But do stop by from time to time, OK? We all miss you!

Oh, I almost forgot. I heard from the Leafes that you're going for Creator rank. I hadn't even heard of that before! But knowing you, you'll get there in no time. They'll probably have to invent a new level BEYOND Creator just for you!

You did it! Yay! Congratulations on making Creator! I heard all about it from the Leafes. I made a very special present for you by hand. Hope you like it! Thanks again for all you've done. For me, for my dad, for Forrest...for Reveria!

It's funny. Usually the Leafes just gossip about Forrest's latest songs...and other silly things. But lately, all they can talk about is YOU! That's how you know you've got it made.
