The Fledgling Paladin The Long Arm of the Law

My name's Roslyn, and I'll be showing you the ropes. Pleasure to meet you!

Now, don't be intimidated. I'm on the newer side myself. But I've been a Paladin for two—nearly three—days, so I know my way around.

Let's begin with the basics. Paladin Etiquette 101, if you will!

A noble and true Paladin always aids those in need!

Never forget, humility and modesty are important. It's all about maintaining the proper composure.

OK, I think you're ready to meet Isobel. She's been a Paladin longer than both of us combined!

Let's head over to the stables. I saw Isobel tending to the Horses this morning.

Just keep an eye on your map and start walking. It's not far from here.

Don't be nervous. I'll be right by your side. All right, [Name 2], let's hit the road!

Hey! This puppy is as much a Paladin as you are, Isobel!

And we're here on official Paladin business. Captain Mustang wants you to teach this recruit some basics.

Whoa! It took me two days to get that right! You must be some kind of Paladin prodigy.

I'm going to have to work harder than ever to stay ahead of you. This is just the motivation I need!

Yes...he spends a lot of time at the market, doesn't he?

Thank you, Isobel! We're on our way!

Come on, [Name 2]. We should try to catch Porthos before his post-snack, pre-next-snack nap.

Oh! Uh, sorry, sir. We don't have any appetizers for you. We're here on official Paladin business.

I'm Roslyn, and this is our newest Paladin. We're actually looking for some information...

Perhaps another time, sir. As I said, we're here on official Paladin business.

In fact, we were hoping you could offer us both some pointers on proper defensive technique.

Thank you so much, sir!

I...I think I get it, sir!

Sir? I'm not sure Captain Mustang would approve...

Yes, sir. It certainly was...filling.

What kind of disturbance, sir?

Really? You're giving us an assignment?

Of course, sir! "Always aid those in need."

You heard the man, [Name 1]. Let's head out!

Yes, sir!

We're off, [Name 1]!

Porthos sent us, sir. We are both official Paladins, at your service!

Delayed? But why? The weather has been fine...the roads are clear. What could have delayed it?

That's terrible. I'm so sorry!

Well, we're honored to be on the case, sir! Leave everything to us.

All right, our mission is to put the apple back in the Appleseed Café.

I know this doesn't sound as exciting as battling a dragon or anything... but these kinds of jobs are just as important to the citizens of Castele.

Now's our chance to prove ourselves as Paladins!

So come on, [Name 3]. Let's give this case a good shake and see what falls out.

I think our first move should be consulting with fellow Paladins. Maybe someone knows something.

We've got patrols stationed all over Castele. If anyone's seen anything suspicious, it'll be them.

I say we try the front gate first. Those guys see everyone coming and going.

Let's hurry up and ask them!

Yes, sir! We're here on official Paladin business. We've got something important to ask you!

Of course! Well, anyway, we'd just like to know if you've seen any suspicious characters pass through.

Oh. Well, it's back to square one for us, I guess...

A real robbery? Wow, that's exciting! Um, I mean...horrible.

Well...anyway...I think I know what our next move should be.

We've got to get to those apple trees before the thief does.

So let's go, [Name 1]! No time to waste!

Well, sir...it certainly appears that the rumors are true.

In fact, [Name 1] and I were on our way to apprehend the culprit ourselves!

Thank you, sir!

Hey, look!

All right, let's head back to the Appleseed Café.

Excuse me, sir, but did you say CASTLE?

I see. And by "the princess," you mean Princess Laura, right?

Yes, sir. Surely! I think.

We...uh...we'll be sure to give him a full report. Glad to be of service!

Thank you, sir! Um, just to be perfectly clear...by "castle," you mean Castele Castle?

Oh! Well...uh...all in a day's work, I suppose. *SQUEEEEEEEE!*

Can you believe it, [Name 2]?! The princess thanked US. I...I can barely breathe!

Great job, [Name 2]! I think we make a pretty good team.

Oh boy...

Let's try talking to someone else, [Player].

Oh, really?

Well, that's promising, but we still need more info. Let's try talking to someone else, [Player].

Need help equipping your sword? Just go into Menu and tap Gear. Then tap the sword icon. Easy!

There you go! All right, now let's go learn how to actually use that thing.

Roslyn

"Halt! In the name of Castele, you're under arrest!!" *sigh* Maybe one day I'll get to say that for real... Oh! You heard me practicing. How embarrassing...

Magnificent animals, aren't they? The Horses, I mean. You can ride them, you know! You can even get your own Horse eventually. I wish I had MY own Horse...

You did choose the Paladin Life on purpose, right? You weren't hoping for a Paddlin' Life? Because you wouldn't be the first one to make that mistake.

So have you ever considered another Life? I mean, I love being a Paladin, but I sure have... I think I'd actually like to dabble in ALL of them, eventually. I'll be a Cook/Hunter/Miner/Paladin!

I may be pretty new to the Paladin Life, but I've already got the basics nailed down. For example, did you know the single most important attribute for us is Strength? Greater Strength equals higher sword damage. And that's critical when you've got to fend for yourself.

Strength is key, but don't forget about Dexterity and Focus too. A great Paladin is strong in all three.

You made Apprentice already? Wow, that was really fast, [Player]! So you must have learned the Lightning Strike technique by now, right? Don't be shy about using it—practice makes perfect! But remember, you need SP to execute the move. Oh, and don't get caught without any SP at a critical moment... That's a Novice mistake.

Can I tell you about this strange dream I had the other night? It was so cool—we were chosen to be Princess Laura's personal guards! But then I told Isobel about the dream, and she just started laughing. She said the princess should be guarding US! What do you think she meant by that?

You know what's weird? Nobody seems to know anything about Queen Ophelia. Or at least...nobody will tell ME anything about her. I get the sense she has a mysterious past...

Congratulations on leveling up, Adept! Feels good, doesn't it? Well, I'm feeling pretty strong too. Should we go take on the Napdragon together? Ho ho! I'm only kidding. That thing would eat us both alive.

Still an Adept? Don't feel bad—you've been moving up pretty quickly. Unlike me. There are some days when I feel like I'll be stuck at this level FOREVER. Ugh! Oh...sorry. I didn't mean to take it out on you. I'm just raring to get out of Castele and go adventuring!

Hey, congratulations! Expert rank is NOT easy to achieve! You'll probably be a Master before long. Wait—does that mean you'll be Mustang's boss? Well, anyway, I'm jealous. You probably even learned a new technique... You did? Argh! I've got to train even harder if I ever want to catch up with you!

Did you know Captain Mustang wasn't always the strongest Paladin around? Not only that...the person who WAS the strongest Paladin was a woman. I always felt empowered by that as a little girl. In fact, it's what made me want to become a Paladin!

Omigosh...you're a Master! It seems like the two of us were just starting out yesterday! OK, you simply HAVE to take me along on some of your adventures. I can learn from you!

With your sword and shield...and, uh...MY sword and shield too...we can take on Reveria! So whaddya say, [Player]? Should we go adventuring?

You know what? You're the first Hero I've ever met in real Life! Have you picked up your Heroic gear yet? I bet you can't wait to show it off. Er...maybe "show it off" isn't humble enough. I bet you can't wait to...uh...modestly wear it around...

You know, I don't normally care about fashion at all. Not like, say, Isobel does. She's always calling Mustang's mustache a "fashion don't." Which...OK...that's pretty funny. But, I gotta admit...I really want some Heroic gear! It feels like I'll never get my own set...

I can't believe we started at the same level, and now you're literally a Legend. Amazing! Now that you're at this level, you probably heard the big secret about Queen Ophelia, right? How do I know about it? Uh...that's a secret for an even HIGHER level. Anyway, just go talk to Mustang. I've already said too much!

Isn't Queen Ophelia such an inspiration? Oh...what I'd give to have lunch with her and pick her brain!

Wait—let me get this straight. You're already a Legendary Paladin, right? And you're aiming for an even HIGHER rank? Are you trying to take Mustang's job? Aw, I'm just giving you a hard time. It's amazing that you've come this far and you still want more! I'm not giving up my dream either. Even if it takes me 50 years, I want to reach Queen Ophelia's level. Oh! I don't want to be the actual queen! I just want to be as strong as she is.

It's been such a great learning experience to come up through the Paladin ranks with you. That's it. I just wanted to say thanks! You've really helped me out, [Player].

I heard the big news. You reached the Creator rank! That's simply unreal. Congratulations! You're a hero...MORE than a hero...to everyone in Reveria. I'm honored to know you.

You know, all your success has really made an impression on me. I mean, Queen Ophelia is still kind of my main idol, but you're right up there. Every time I see you, I'm inspired to work harder. So thank you! Thank you so much.
